Women’s Tennis Sweeps STAC, Clinches 10th Victory of Season

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Concluding their homestand, the Queens College women's tennis team welcomed St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) Spartans for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup Saturday afternoon.
 
Queens swept all nine courts on the afternoon, earning a 7-0 victory over the Spartans and completing the season sweep. Sophomore Anishka Amalnathan clinched the match at No. 4 singles to secure the Knights' 10th victory of the season.
 
With the victory, Queens improves to 10-1 overall and 10-1 in CACC play.

Doubles Recap

With STAC unable to field a doubles team at No. 3 doubles, the Knights opened the match with a 1-0 lead as Amalnathan and Elise Bosmans earned the default victory.
 
Queens clinched the doubles point at No. 1 doubles, where seniors Sixtine Goubet and Lilie Bizouerne earned a 6-2 victory over Lily Amelia and Emma Huber.
 
At No. 2 doubles, sophomores Johanne Genestay and Ela Vasic completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory over Shreethika Vangala and Nina Victoria Derkac.

Singles Recap

Goubet extended the Knights' lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory over Vangala at No. 1 singles.
 
Genestay followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Amelia at No. 3 singles, putting Queens ahead 3-0.
 
Amalnathan clinched the match at No. 4 singles, defeating Derkac, 6-3, 6-2, to secure the Knights' 10th victory of the season.
 
Vasic then pushed the Queens advantage to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Huber at No. 2 singles.
 
At No. 5 singles, rookie Vilte Vaitkeviciute won the opening set, 6-1, over Lisa Matz. With Vaitkeviciute leading 2-0 in the second set, Matz retired, giving the Knights a 6-0 advantage.
 
Rookie Seren Forsyth completed the sweep at No. 6 singles, recording a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set victory over Monica Blucher as Queens earned its 10th win of the season.

Next Match

Queens concludes the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when the Knights travel to Wilmington, Del., to face Wilmington University Wildcats. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
