FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing the Aline Pascale Lubin Invitational Saturday, the Queens College women's volleyball team welcomed defending national champions Lynn University Fighting Knights and the Wildcats of Wilmington University to Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

(Set Scores: 16-25, 16-25, 13-25) victory over Queens. While in the final match of the invitational, Queen battled back and forth against the Wildcats as the trio of senior middle blocker
Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, Fla), Conrad and rookie setter
Kylynn White (Chicago, IL) combined for 48 kills to help the Knights earning a thrilling 3-2
(Set Scores: 25-18, 25-27, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11) victory.
With the doubleheader split, the Knights improve to 2-2 on the young season.

Both sides exchanged the first four points before the Knight went on a 7-2 run to take a 9-4 lead with Sophomore libero
Asuka Shibu (Tochigi, Japan) recorded two service aces forcing a Lynn timeout.
The visitors responded out of the timeout as they went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. Queens would get close as 15-13 before Lynn was able to close out the set to the score of 25-16 for an early 1-0 lead.
The second set would be a back-and-forth affair through the first 27 points as the Knights worked through four lead changes. Just as Queens got within one, 14-13, the Fighting Knights used an 11-3 run to take a commanding match lead of 2-0, earning a 25-16 second set victory.
Lynn jumped ahead 7-1 in the third set and never looked back to complete the match sweep to the final set score of 25-13.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Conrad led the way recording a match-high 10 kills on a hitting % of .227, with three digs and one block.
- Senior middle blocker Maya Angelova (Kyustendil, Bulgaria) notched five kills on a hitting % of .400 to go with one block.
Recap Match Four vs. Wilmington University
Looking to complete the weekend on a positive note, the Knights would be tested to the limit for the second day in a row. In a five-set battle against the Wildcats, there would be a total of 41 ties and 19 lead changes.
In the first set, Queens trailed 12-8 forcing a Knights timeout. The timeout would work in the Knights' favor as they went on an 8-2 run to take a 16-14 lead forcing the Wildcats to use a timeout.
But it would be the Knights who stayed with the momentum as they were able to close out the first set on a 9-4 run to take a 1-0 match lead to the score of 25-18 in the first set as Conrad and Osterhoudt combined for eight kills.
The second set would be a close affair as it saw nine ties and two lead changes, but the Wildcats would tie the match at 1-1 to the score of 27-25.
Queens bounced back in the third set as White recorded five kills as she hit. 400 to lead the offense while the duo of senior libero
Alexis Stoehrer (Medford, N.Y.) and senior setter
Jayna Marie Lorenzo (Rodeo, CA) combined for nine assists.
With the Knights trailing 21-19, a kill from Osterhoudt started a 6-1 run before Shibue put the Knights at set point with an ace, and Angelova's second kill of the set helped Queens earn a 25-22 third set victory to take a 2-1 match lead.
For the second time in the match, there would be nine ties and two lead changes, but with the Wildcats hitting .241 compared to the .167 by the Knights, the visitors would force a fifth set to decide the winner of the match.
The duo of Conrad and White notched two kills, while the Wildcats committed two errors to give the Knights a 5-2 lead and force a Wildcats timeout.
Out of the timeout, Queens continued to take advantage of Wilmington's errors as they were able to take a 9-4 lead.
The Wildcats would cut the home side down to two on four separate occasions. Just as the Wildcats got the scoreline down to 13-11, Marie Lorenzo would connect with Osterhoudt to give the Knights match point before the senior connected with Conrad for the winning kill as Queens earned a thrilling 15-11 fifth set and the match 3-2 to improve to 2-2 on the year.
BY THE NUMBERS
- It would be a career day for Osterhoudt as the senior middle blocker recorded a match-and-career-high 18 kills on a scorching .533 hitting % to go with five blocks, two assists one service ace.
- Conrad recorded 16 kills to go with two blocks and two digs.
- It would be a career match for White as the rookie recorded her first triple-double of the year with 14 kills on a .306 hitting %, 19 assists, 11 digs, and two service aces.
- Marie Lorenzo notched a second career double-double with a career-best 31 digs and 14 digs to go with two kills.
- Angelova notched eight kills, two digs, and two blocks.
- Sophomore outside hitter Sophie Schonauer (Bakersfield, CA) notched 19 digs.
- Stoehrer recorded 19 digs, four assists, and two service aces.
- Sophomore defensive specialist Olivia Hyman (Forest Hills, N.Y.) tallied 11 digs and a match-high three service aces in the victory.
Next Match
The Knights hit the road on Tuesday, September 9, as they travel to Lakewood, N.J. for a non-conference tilt against CACC champions Georgian Court University Lions. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
