2025 Women’s Volleyball Season Preview: Knights Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll, Season Opens Friday in Flushing

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The 2025 Queens College women's volleyball season officially kicks off on Friday, September 5, as the Knights host the third annual Aline Pascale Lubin Invitational inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
 
Sixth-year head coach Stefan Leger and the Knights are coming off one of their most successful campaigns since 2008. In 2024, Leger guided Queens to a 19-11 overall record and a 9-3 mark in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. The Knights clinched a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and earned the No. 2 seed in the ECC Women's Volleyball Tournament, marking their third consecutive postseason appearance under Leger.
 
The Knights were strong at home, posting a 9-6 record at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. They also performed well away from home, going 7-5 on the road and 3-1 on neutral courts.

In the 2025 preseason coaches poll, Leger and the Knights earned two first-place votes and have been tabbed to finish fourth, earning a total of 36 points. Full ECC Story

2025 Roster Outlook

A total of 14 student-athletes make up the 2025 roster, including 10 returners and four newcomers. The roster is distributed between two freshmen, four sophomores, one junior, and seven seniors.
 
Returning All-ECC honorees in the senior duo of outside hitter Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) and middle blocker Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, Fla.) will be expected to lead the team offense as they combined for 486 kills, 37 service aces, and a total of 159 blocks.
 
Seniors outside hitter Elizabeth Cerullo (Saint James, N.Y.), middle blocker Maya Angelova (Kyustendil, Bulgaria), setter Jayna Marie Lorenzo (Rodeo, CA), libero/defensive specialist Alexis Stoehrer (Medford, N.Y.), and outside hitter Elena Leung (Bellerose, N.Y.) will look to make significant contributions as Queens aims for another postseason run.
 
Building on their rookie campaign, the sophomore trio of libero Olivia Hyman (Forest Hills, N.Y.), outside hitter Sophie Schonauer (Bakersfield, CA), and setter Nourhan Hadjeb (Astoria, N.Y.) will look to play key roles throughout the season.
 
Two transfer students in sophomore libero Asuka Shibue (Tochigi, Japan) and junior libero Isabella Garcia Valencia (Bogota, Colombia) add valuable defensive experience to the roster.
 
Lastly, the rookie duo of setter Kylynn White (Chicago, IL) and outside hitter Alex Fernandez (Mineola, N.Y.) will be looking to make valuable contributions as they get adjusted to the collegiate level.

Week One Outlook – Aline Pascale Lubin Invitational

Match One: vs Post University Eagles (Friday, Sept. 4)
W-L History: 7-2
  • The Eagles posted a record of 20-11 and made the CACC Championship in 2024,
  • Friday's opening match against Post will be the fifth straight meeting since the 2022 season. Last season, Queens completed the series sweep, earning a 3-2 victory in New Haven, CT, and a 3-1 victory in Flushing.
 
Match Two: vs. Assumption University Greyhounds (Friday, Sept. 4)
W-L History: 2-0
  • Assumption concluded 2024 with an overall record of 8-17 and made the NE10 First Round.
  • Friday's match against the Greyhounds will be the third overall meeting in program history and the first meeting since the 2015 season, which saw Queens earn a 3-2 victory.
 
Match Three: vs. Lynn University Fighting Knights (Saturday, Sept. 5)
W-L History: -
  • Lynn University will enter Flushing as defending national champions, as they concluded the 2024 season with an overall record of 33-3.
  • Saturday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the sides.
 
Match Four: vs. Wilmington University Wildcats (Saturday, Sept. 5)
W-L History: 2-2
  • The Wildcats concluded the 2024 season with an overall record of 11-20.
  • Saturday's meeting will be the fifth all-time meeting between both sides and the first meeting since the 2023 season, which saw Queens earn a 3-1 road victory over the Wildcats.

Week Two Outlook:

It will be a four-match week for the Knights beginning on Tuesday, Sept 9, as they travel to Lakewood, N.J., for a non-conference tilt against Georgian Court University Lions. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
