LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Hitting the road for the first time this year, the Queens College women's volleyball team faced off against defending CACC champions Georgian Court University Lions on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at the GCU Wellness Center.
Queens were led by rookie setter
Kylynn White (Chicago, IL) recording her first career double-double with 12 kills and 15 assists, while senior outside hitter
Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) tallied 10 kills. But in a back-and-forth battle, the Knights would come up short as they fell in three sets to the Lions.
Match Recap – Queens 0, Georgian Court 3 (Set Scores: 23-25, 21-25, 26-28)
It would be a slow start to the match for the Knights as they found themselves trailing by six points on various occasions.
Despite White recording a team-high eight kills with a .500 hitting percentage in the first set, the Knights trailed 1-0 as they dropped the set 25-23.
Queens would bounce back quickly to open the second set as they hit .400 with one service ace and three blocks to take an 8-2 lead, forcing a Lions timeout. The Lions used the timeout to their advantage as they slowly started to cut into the Knights' lead.
As Georgian Court got within two, 12-10, the trio of White, Conrad, and senior
Maya Angelova (Kyustendil, Bulgaria) tallied three straight kills to take a 15-10 advantage. However, errors would hurt the Knights as the Lions rallied with a 15-6 run to close out the set 25-21 and take a commanding 2-0 match lead.
The third set would see Queens fall behind 9-2, forcing an early timeout. Using the timeout to their advantage, the Knights would slowly start to find their rhythm as they were able to get within four on three separate occasions.
But just as the Lions took a 17-13 advantage, the Knights put together an 8-3 run with Conrad notching three kills in the run to take a 21-20 advantage.
Queens fought hard to force a fourth set, but ultimately fell in a tightly contested three-set match, with Georgian Court closing out a nail-biting 28-26 third set to secure the victory.
