FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning home to conclude the regular season the nationally-ranked #41 Queens College men's tennis team welcomed Daemen University Wildcats in East Coast Conference play before they matched up against Saint Michael's College Purple Knights in a non-conference showdown to conclude Friday's doubleheader.
The Knights would complete a doubleheader sweep winning to a combined score of 14-0 over the Wildcats and Purple Knights.
With the doubleheader sweep, Queens improves to 16-4 overall on the year.
MATCH ONE VS. DAEMEN UNIVERSITY
DOUBLES PLAY
With the Wildcats shorts of a double team and a sixth single court, the Knights began the morning up 1-0.
Queens would go onto sweep doubles action as sophomore
Loup Alleno (Paris, France) and rookie
Adam Laur (Boulogne Billancourt, France) earned a 6-1 victory over Juan Alvarez and Jayvan Williams at #1 court to take a 2-0 match lead.
The #2 doubles pair of sophomore
Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and
David Cerne (Ljubljana, Slovenia) earned a 6-2 victory over Rohan Chitanand and Lucas Angarita as the Knights swept doubles play.
SINGLES PLAY
Leading 2-0, rookie
Pablo Serrano (Cochabamba, Bolivia) earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Chitanand at #3 court before Laur clinched the match at #2 court over Angarita to the score of 6-0, 6-2.
Alleno would put Queens up 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Alvarez at #1 singles before rookie
Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) earned a 6-0, 6-1 over Vondin Henderson at #5 singles for a 6-0 advantage.
Cerne at #4 court would complete the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Williamson as the Knights earned a 7-0 victory for their 15
th victory of the year and fifth in ECC play.
MATCH TWO VS. SAINT MICHAEL'S COLLEGE
DOUBLES PLAY
In their second match of the day, the Knights matched up against the Purple Knights to conclude the regular season.
The Knights began the doubles play with Andersson and Laur earning a 6-1 victory over Garrett Brooker and Jackson Moser at #2 court before the #3 brotherly pair of junior
Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and rookie
Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Jamie Macpherson and Brayden Effler to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
It would be a tough loss at the #1 court for rookie
Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) and junior
Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) as the duo fell 4-6 against Sergio Barroso and Tristian Du Plessis.
SINGLES PLAY
Leading 1-0, Laur earned his second singles victory of the day with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Brooker at #3 court to put Queens up 2-0.
Junior
Viktor Ek Johansson (Stockholm, Sweden) earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Benji Hegedus-Kyster at #2 court to put the Knights up 3-0 before junior
Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) clinched the match at #1 court over Barroso to the score of 6-3, 6-3.
Leading 4-0, Queens would complete the sweep as sophomore
Caleb Brightman (Pawling, N.Y.) earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Moser at #4 court, rookie
Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) earned a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0
(10-4) victory over Simon Lundholm at #6 court.
Rookie
London Mosquera (Queens, N.Y.) completed the sweep with a three-set comeback victory over Macpherson at #5 singles to the score of 5-7, 6-2, 1-0
(10-5) as the Knights earned their 16
th victory of the year.
