Men’s Basketball Senior Guards Ayala and Chester Earn All-ECC Third Team Honors Thursday Afternoon

COLONIA, N.J. – On Thursday, March 6 the East Coast Conference announced the 2024-2025 Men's Basketball All-Conference honorees, and Queens College senior guards Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) and Nasan Ayala (LeFrak City, N.Y.) earned All-Conference Third Team honors as voted by the league's nine head coaches.
 
For the third straight year, two Queens College men's basketball student-athletes were honored for their performances to earn All-ECC honors.
 
During the regular season, the senior duo of Ayala and Chester would lead the way for the Knights to finish with an overall record of 12-16 and an 8-8 conference record which would help the Knights earn the #3 seed to the ECC Men's Basketball Tournament.
 
It would be the Knights' second time in four seasons finishing top four in the conference standings while matching a third-place finish since the 2010-11 season.

All-ECC Third TeamShamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.)

A four-year Knight caps off a stellar career earning All-ECC honors for the first time in his career. Chester appeared in all 28 regular games earning 15 starts as he averaged 11.8 points per game (third on the team), 2.1 assists per game (second on the team), and 4.0 rebounds per game (fifth on the team).
 
On January 15th Chester would become the 18th player in program history to score 1000 points or more.
 
Also, the senior would earn four spots on the weekly award sheet.

All-ECC Third TeamNasan Ayala

Alaya appeared in 24 games earning 18 starts as he finished first leading the team in points per game (12.8), rebounds per game (5.5), defensive rebounds per game (4.0), fourth in offensive rebounds per game (1.5), second in steals per game (1.5), and third in assists per game (1.9).
 
The Lefrak native also recorded two double-doubles on the year with four 20-point performances.
 
Also, the senior would earn six spots on the weekly award sheet.

NEXT GAME

The Knights are ECC Semi-Final Bound having defeated Molloy University Wednesday evening. Queens will now head to Amherst, N.Y. as they prepare to match up against five-time defending ECC Champions St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Saturday, Mar. 8 for a spot in the ECC Championship game on the line. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Lumsden Gymnasium.
