BRONX, N.Y. – On Saturday morning the Queens College women's tennis team went cross-division with a road trip to the Bronx as they matched up against Division I Fordham University Rams at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.
The Knights would battle against Rams with the #3 doubles duo of graduate student
Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and rookie
Sakura Saito (Chiba, Japan) picking up a victory but Queens would fall to the final score of 4-0 against the Rams.
The Knights move to 6-3 overall on the year.
DOUBLES ACTION
The doubles duo of Bergmann and Saito would put Queens up early 1-0 as they defeated Nevena Kolarevic and Aya Matsunaga to the score of 6-1.
But the Rams would rally back as the #2 pair of graduate student
Eva Rivoal (Saint-Denis-de-Pile, France) and junior
Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) fell to Paola Dalmonico and Catalina Padilla to the score of 6-1 as the home side tied doubles play at 1-1.
Down to the final match at #1 doubles between the senior doubles pair
Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and
Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) against Lorraine Bergmann and Lily Chitambar, both pairs would battle back and forth before the Rams earned the doubles points with a 7-5 victory to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
SINGLES ACTION
Facing a tough competition, the Knights would fall short as the Rams earned a 4-0 victory winning singles matches at courts #3-5.
Berggren fell at #4 singles against Chitambar to the score of 6-4, 6-0 before Bergmann dropped her match at #5 singles to the score of 6-1, 6-1 against Padilla.
The Rams would clinch the match at #3 singles as Lamy fell to Dalmonico to the score of 6-2, 6-3 to earn the 4-0 victory.
The single matches at #1, #2, and #6 went unfinished.
NEXT MATCH
The Knights will use the next week and a half to prepare for regional play as they welcome Wilmington University Wildcats on Wednesday, Mar. 26 to town. The first serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
