SPARKILL, N.Y. – Opening East Coast Conference play on Saturday morning, the Queens College women's tennis team faced off against St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill.
With the Spartans short-handed, the Knights swept all nine courts, earning a 7–0 victory and securing their first win of the season.
Doubles Play
With no St. Thomas Aquinas #3 doubles team available, Queens College needed just one doubles win to secure the early lead. The Knights' top duo of senior
Marie Bertran (Villelaure, France) and sophomore
Johanne Genestay (Dinan, France) made quick work of their opponents, defeating Kateryna Kryuchkova and Zhuozuan Sun with a dominant 6–0 victory.
Queens completed the doubles sweep as the #2 pairing of juniors
Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) and
Sixtine Goubet (Lyon, France) earned a solid 6–3 win over Mar Caneves Bufi and Shreethika Vangala.
Singles Play
With a 3–0 lead heading into singles, senior
Lydia Zafeiri (Athens, Greece) quickly added to the Knights' tally on court #4. After taking the first set 6–0 against Monica Blucher, Zafeiri was leading 1–0 in the second when Blucher retired, sealing the match victory for Queens.
Bizouerne followed up with a commanding performance at #2 singles, defeating Sun in straight sets, 6–2, 6–0, to earn the Knights' fifth point.
