FLUSHING, N.Y. – Over the weekend, the Queens College men's tennis team opened the Fall schedule by competing in the ITA East Regional Singles and Doubles Tournament.
There would be no repeat Champions for the Knights but junior
Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) was the lone Knight to advance to the Quarterfinals Round.

Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) were the two Knights that advanced to the Round of 16.
Foix Sotos seeded #9 began the singles tournament earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Elliot Jarosz of Thomas Jefferson University. In the next round, he would defeat Franklin Pierce University Noe Martin in straight sets to the score of 6-2, 6-3.
In the Round of 16, Foix Sotos matched up against District of Columbia #8 Louka Queguiner in a three-set battle that went down to the wire. Queguiner would take the first set in a tiebreaker with a 7-6
(9-7) before Foix Sotos battled back to earn a 7-6
(7-1) tiebreaker victory. In the third set, Foix Sotos would earn a 10-8 victory to advance to the Quarterfinals.
But his tournament run would come to an end against Adelphi University #1 seed Marko Jovanovic in a three-set battle. Jovanovic earned the first set with a 6-3 victory before Foix Sotos earned a 6-2 victory to force the tiebreaker. But it would be Jovanovic who earned the victory and ended Foix Sotos's run with a 10-5 victory.
While Martin-Gibiard who was seeded #12 made his Knights debut against Franklin Pierce University Joe Herin and would earn a 6-4, 6-1 victory. In the next round, Martin-Gibiard knocked off St. Thomas Aquinas College Nathan Yacar to the score of 7-5, 6-4. But the junior's run would end in the Round of 16 against #4 Don Vinz Lominoque in two closely contested sets to the score of 7-5, 7-5.
The duo of sophomore
Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and freshman
Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) advanced to the Round of 16.
While the doubles pair of Foix Sotos and Andersson advanced to the quarterfinal round before falling to STAC Sramek Ondrej and Lorenzo Meschini.
NEXT FALL TOURNAMENT
Queens continues the fall season on Friday, Sept. 20 in Hempstead, N.Y. as they compete in the Hofstra Invitational hosted by Hofstra University Pride.
