Men’s Tennis Battles Big East Opponent St. John’s University Monday Afternoon

QUEENS, N.Y. – Opening a three-match road trip, the Queens College men's tennis team made the quick trip to Utopia Parkway with a non-conference match-up against Division I St. John's University Red Storm Monday afternoon.
 
The Knights would battle in all nine matches on the day but the lone victories would come off the serving hands of junior Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) and sophomore Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) as the duo picked up singles victories but the Knights would fall to the final score of 5-2.
 
With the loss, the Knights moved to 6-6 overall on the year.

Doubles

All three doubles matches would be tight but the #2 doubles pair of senior Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) and Foix Sotos would fall short against Martin Bugaj and Armando Sotelo to the score of 4-6.
 
The #3 doubles pair of senior Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) and freshman Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) would take the SJU pair of Adam Groves and Ryota Kaneda to the distance before the Knights pair fell in the tiebreaker to the score of 6-7 (4-7) as SJU clinched the doubles points.
 
The #1 doubles match between senior Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and Henricy against Francisco Bascon and Leonardo Mileikowsky went unfinished with the Knights trailing 4-5.

Singles

Queens would go trail 2-0 as Gonzalez fell to Danilo Raicevic to the score of 1-6, 0-6 at #5 singles.
 
Rikkonen would fall to Bugaj to the score of 3-6, 4-6 at #1 singles before the home side clinched the match at #2 singles as Andersson fell to Carl Gustavsson to the score of 4-6, 3-6.
 
Henricy would clinch his match over Ignacio Vinas to the score of 6-3, 6-2 before Sotos earned a three-set comeback victory over Mileikowsky to the score of 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 as the Knights earned two matches on the day.
 
Freshman Noah Gauthier (La Colle-sur-Loup, France) would fall in a tough #6 singles match against Kaneda to the score of 4-6, 2-6 as SJU earned the match to the final score of 5-2 Monday afternoon.

Next Serve

The Knights continue non-conference play with a road match in the Bronx on Wednesday (Apr. 10) afternoon as they match up against Division I Fordham University Rams. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
