FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's tennis team concluded the 2024 regular season on Thursday afternoon in Waltham, Mass with a non-conference match against the Falcons of Bentley University.
The Knights would earn the doubles play with victories at #1 and #3 before sweeping all singles matches to earn a 7-0 victory over the Falcons.
With the win, the Knights improved to 13-6 overall on the year.
Doubles
Queens began the doubles action as the senior pair of
Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) earned a 6-1 victory over Max Bonte and Christian Duffy.
The Knights would clinch the doubles point at #3 court as the pair of senior
Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) and freshman
Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) earned a 6-4 victory over Ansh Chadha and Diego Ramos.
The #2 doubles match went unfinished with the score tied at 3-3.
Singles
Queens would take a 2-0 lead as El Shehawey earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Ramos at #5 singles.
At #6 singles freshman
Noah Gauthier (La Colle-sur-Loup, France) earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Duffy as Queens took a commanding lead of 3-0.
Rikkonen would clinch the match at #1 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Bonte.
Sophomore
Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) would give the Knights a 5-0 lead as he earned a 7-6
(7-5), 6-4 victory over Gabe Horwitz at #4 singles.
Junior
Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory at #2 singles over Gabe Horwitz before Andersson earned a three-set battle over Nikolai Pran to the score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to complete the 7-0 sweep.
Next Serve
The Knights now set their sights on earning a second consecutive ECC Title with the postseason tournament set to begin Friday (Apr. 26) morning beginning with a matchup against the Wildcats of Daemen University. First serve is set for 8:45 a.m.
