Men’s Tennis Concludes ECC Play With Sweep over Daemen Saturday Evening

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Concluding their homestand with their final East Coast Conference match of the year, the Queens College men's tennis team welcomed the Wildcats of Daemen University to the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble Saturday evening.
 
The Knights would earn the doubles play with victories at #1 and #3 before sweeping all singles matches to earn a 7-0 victory over the Wildcats.
 
With the win, the Knights improved to 12-6 overall on the year and concluded ECC play with a 5-1 record.

Doubles

Queens began the doubles action as the #3 pair of senior Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) and freshman Noah Gauthier (La Colle-sur-Loup, France) defeated Lasse Mergens and Rohan Chitanand to the score of 6-2.
 
But the Wildcats would tie the doubles action as the #2 pair of senior Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) and freshman David Cerne (Ljubljana, Slovenia) fell to Lucas Garcia and Zachary LaPlante to the score of 3-6.
 
But the Knights would clinch the doubles point at #1 with senior Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and freshman Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) defeating Alex Lumanog and Juan Alvarez to the score of 7-5 to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.

Singles

El Shehawey would give the Knights a 2-0 lead as he defeated Chitanand to the score of 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles.
 
Queens would go up 3-0 as Gauthier defeated Mergens at #5 singles to the score of 6-2, 6-1 before sophomore Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) clinched the match at #3 singles over Garcia to the score of 6-0, 6-3.
 
Andersson promoted to #1 would defeat Alvarez to the score of 6-3, 6-3 to give the Knights a 5-0 advantage.
 
Cerne at #6 singles would battle back against Lapante to earn a three-set victory to the final score of 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 before junior Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) completed the 7-0 sweep over Lumanog at #2 singles in a three-set battle to the score of 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 10-6 as Queens concluded their home portion of the regular season with record of 7-2 on the year.

Next Serve

The Knights conclude the regular season with a two-match road beginning on Wednesday (Apr. 24) afternoon in Hooksett, New Hampshire as they match up against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
