Men’s Tennis Opens Home Stand With 6-1 Non-Conference Victory over Chestnut Hill Monday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning home after a four-match road trip, the Queens College men's tennis team opened a three-match homestand Monday afternoon as they welcomed the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College to town.
 
The Knights would earn the doubles point before taking five singles matches over the Griffins to earn a 6-1 match victory.
 
With the win, the Knights improved to 10-6 overall on the year.

Doubles

Queens began the doubles action on a strong note as the senior pair of Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) and Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) defeated Siddarth Malik and Pedro Vincente to the final score of 6-1 at the #3 court.
 
Queens would clinch the doubles point at the #2 court as the pair of sophomore Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and junior Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) defeated Joao Sousa and Tiago Lima to the score of 6-3.
 
The Griffins would earn a victory at #1 doubles as senior Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and freshman Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) fell to Noah Cutting and Antonio Franquis to the final score of 3-6.

Singles

Leading 1-0, El Shehawey put the Knights up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Malik at the #5 court.
 
Freshman Noah Gauthier (La Colle-sur-Loup, France) would put the Knights up 3-0 as he defeated Vicente in straight sets to the score of 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles.
 
Queens clinched the match at #4 court as Foix Sotos defeated Sousa to the score of 7-5, 6-1.
 
The Griffins earned the lone victory at #2 court as Henricy fell to Franquis to the score of 3-6, 3-6.
 
But the Knights would complete the convincing victory as Andersson defeated Lima to the score of 6-2, 6-2 at #3 singles before Rikkonen completed his match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Cutting at #1 singles as Queens earned a 6-1 match victory.

Next Serve

The Knights continue non-conference play on Wednesday (Apr. 17) afternoon as they welcome the Panthers of Adelphi University to town. First serve is set for noon.
