Men’s Tennis Defeats Post 4-3 in Non-Conference Play Monday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning home following a tough two-match road trip, the Queens College men's tennis team welcomed the Eagles of Post University to town in non-conference play.
 
The Knights would earn the doubles points with a victory at #1 and #3 doubles before both sides split the singles action as Queens earned a 4-3 victory and ended a two-match losing streak.
 
With the win, the Knights improved to 5-4 overall on the year.

Doubles

The Knights opened doubles play on a strong note as senior Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and junior Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) defeated Niklas Langenfield and Anton Andersson to the score of 6-2 to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Queens would clinch the doubles point at #3 court with the duo of senior Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) and freshman Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) defeating Josh Cronje and Tobias Strauss to the score of 6-4.
 
The Eagles would take the victory at #2 doubles as the duo of sophomore Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and senior Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) fell to Gustavo Kerber and Dante Despontin to the score of 7-5.

Singles

Leading 1-0 to begin singles play Fiox Sotos would put the Knights up 2-0 as he defeated Despontin to the score of 6-1, 6-1 at #3 singles.
 
Queens would take a commanding lead of 3-0 as El Shehawey defeated Langenfield to the score of 6-1, 6-1 at #4 singles.
 
The Eagles would cut into the Knights lead as Andersson fell at #2 singles against Kerber in a three-set battle. Andersson would earn the first set to the score of 6-2 before Kerber defeated the rookie in the second and third set to the score of 6-2, 6-2.
 
But Queen would clinch the match at #5 singles as rookie Noah Gauthier (La Colle-sur-Loup, France) knocked off Cronje in straight sets to the score of 6-2, 6-4.
 
The Eagles would the final two singles matches at #1 and #6 singles to make the final scoreline 4-3.

Next Serve

The Knights continue non-conference play on Tuesday (Apr. 2) morning as they welcome Fairleigh Dickinson University to town. First serve is set for 11:30 a.m.
