WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Queens College women's basketball team wrapped their road portion of the 2023-2024 schedule with a trip to Washington, D.C. as the Knights matched up against the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia inside E.B. Henderson Sports Complex Wednesday evening in East Coast Conference play.
Three Knights scored in double figures led by sophomore
Brianna Davis's (Bronx, N.Y.) game-high 21 points, while the rookie duo of
Jalea Abrams (Elmira, N.Y.) and
Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) combined for 26 points to pace the scoring but Queens would fall to the final score of 80-56.

The Firebirds opened the scoring before Davis tallied seven straight points as the Knights traded leads in the opening three minutes of the first quarter.
With the Knights leading 7-6, UDC responded with a 6-0 run to take a 12-7 lead before the Bronx native answered with four straight points to get Queens within one, 12-11 with 3:25 to go.
Queens would take a 14-12 lead with 2:54 to go as Abrams connected from deep but the Firebirds would end the first stanza on a 9-3 run as they took a 21-17 lead into the second quarter.
Trailing by four, 21-17 to open the second stanza, Queens responded with a 7-0 run from the 9:32 mark to the 8:54 mark as they took a 24-21 lead.
But the Firebirds would go on a 10-2 run as they stayed hot from long distance to take a 31-26 lead with 6:16 to go until halftime.
Queens would get within two, 31-29 at the 5:18 mark before another 10-4 run from the home side saw the Firebirds take a 41-35 lead into halftime.
However second-half shooting woes would hurt the Knights' comeback as they were held to 30.7% shooting with four made field goals, while the Firebirds shot 46.6% from the field with seven made field goals as they were able to stretch their lead into double figures before earning a 80-56 victory over Queens.
By the Numbers
- Davis led the offense with a game-high 21 points (8-of-15 FG, 1-of-3 3PT, 4-of-5 FT) to go with eight rebounds, and three steals.
- Abrams notched 14 points (6-of-19 FG) with five assists and two steals.
- While Awaka notched 12 points (4-of-8 FG, 4-of-7 FT) with six rebounds.
- Sophomore Gianna Henriques (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a near double-double with seven points, and 10 rebounds, while matching a career-high four blocks and recorded a new career-high in steals with four on the night.
- As a team, the Knights were held to 41.5% as they went 22-53 from the field, while the Firebirds shot 47.6% on 30-63 from the field.
- UDC held a slim advantage on rebounds with 36-33 while Queens tallied an 11-5 advantage on second-chance points.

The Knights conclude the 2023-2024 year on Saturday (Mar. 2) afternoon as they welcome the Dolphins of College of Staten Island to town. Tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
