SPARKILL, N.Y. – East Coast Conference play moved to Sparkill as the Queens College women's basketball team matched up against the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College inside Aquinas College Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans opened the game with a 7-2 lead before the Knights put together a 7-2 run to get within two, 9-7 with 5:21 left in the first quarter.
But the Spartans would end the first quarter on a 4-2 run to take a 13-9 advantage after the end of the first stanza.
STAC opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run from the 9:37 mark to the 6:03 mark to take a 21-11 lead.
With the Spartans leading by 10 points, 21-11, Queens would end the second quarter on an 11-4 run as they were able to cut their deficit down to three, 25-22 heading into the locker rooms at halftime.
But a slow start to begin the third quarter and the Spartans shooting 73.3% compared to the Knights 40.0% in the third would hurt the Knights' comeback attempt as the home side earned a season series split with a 71-48 victory Saturday afternoon.
By the Numbers
- Rookie Jalea Abrams (Elmira, N.Y.) led the Knights' offense with a game-high 19 points (6-of-18 FG, 3-of-8 3PT, 4-of-4 FT) to go with three rebounds, and one assist.
- Sophomore Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded 18 points (6-of-17 FG, 6-of-6 FT) with seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
- Rookie Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) tallied seven points (3-of-10 FG, 1-of-4 FT) with five rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
- As a team, the Knights were held to 32.7% as they went 17-52 from the field, while the Spartans shot 48.3% on 29-60 from the field.
Next Game
The Knights conclude the road trip portion of the regular season on Wednesday (Feb. 28) evening as they travel to Washington, D.C. with a matchup against the Firebirds of the University of District of Columbia. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
