Chester Records 16 Points as Men’s Basketball Second Half Rally Falls Short Against Host Adelphi Saturday Afternoon

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Concluding the East Coast Conference x NE10 Conference Challenge the Queens College men's basketball team matched up against the Panthers of the Adelphi University inside the Center for Recreation and Sport Saturday afternoon.
 
Three Knights recorded double-digit figures led by senior guard Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) notching16 points, while the duo of junior guard Eric Tynes (Springfield, MA.) and senior forward Damiri Lindo (Oakland, CA.) combined for 27 points but a late second-half rally would fall short as the Knights fell to the final score of 80-66 Saturday afternoon.

GAME RECAP

It would be a slow start to the game for the Knights as they fell behind 15-5 at the 14:27 mark.
 
But as the Knights shot 15-of-20 at the free throw line, field goal shooting would hurt Queens as they shot 25% from the field to trail 48-28 heading into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
Looking to find consistent scoring, and trialing 66-39, at the 12:25 mark, the trio of Tynes, Chester, and Lindo would together 10-2 run as Queens cut their deficit down to 19 at the 9:51 mark to the score of 68-49.
 
Queens would get their deficit down to 16, 76-60 with 4:14 left in the game but with the Knights unable to get stops on the defensive end, the second-half rally would fall short as Queens fell to the final score 80-66 Saturday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Chester led the Knights' offense with a team-high 16 points (5-of-8 FG | 6-of-6 FT) to go with three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
  • Tynes recorded 14 points (5-of-7 FG | 2-of-4 3PT | 2-of-2 FT) off the bench.
  • Lindo recorded 13 points (5-of-8 FG | 1-of-3 3PT | 5-of-9 FT) to go with a team-high four steals and one rebound.
  • Senior guard Nasan Ayala (LeFrak City, N.Y.) recorded eight points, two rebounds and one assist.
  • Junior center Omari Byrd (Ypsilanti, MI.) recorded two points, a game-high 10 rebounds (2-8 ORB-DRB), three steals, one block and one assist.
  • As a team Queens shot 19-of-50 from the field (38.0%), 4-of-16 from distance (25.0%), and 24-of-31 at the free line (77.4 %).
    • In the second half, the Knights shot 13-of-26 from the field (50.0%), 3-of-7 from distance (42.86%), and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe (81.82%).

NEXT TIP-OFF

The Knights open a two-game homestand on Saturday, Nov. 16 as they welcome the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College to town. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
