Women’s Tennis Ends Homestand with ECC Sweep over D’Youville Saturday Evening

Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing East Coast Conference play the Queens College women's tennis team matched up against the Saints of D'Youville University inside the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble Saturday evening.
 
Queens would earn their second sweep of the year as the Knights earned a 7-0 over the Saints to end their first homestand of the year on a strong note.
 
With the win, the Knights improved to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in ECC play.

DOUBLES ACTION

The Knights #1 doubles pair of seniors Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) earned a 6-0 victory over Mina Randjelovic and Yuliia Kashtelian to give the home side an early lead of 1-0 in doubles action.
 
Queen would clinch the doubles points as the duo of graduate student Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and freshman Sakura Saito (Chiba, Japan) knocked off Maria Campisi and Paola Ermina to the score of 6-0.
 
Queens would complete the doubles sweep behind the senior duo of Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) and Mariana Ling (Orlando, FL) earning a 6-0 victory over Yelizaveta Prokopenko and Emiliia Soloviova.

SINGLES ACTION

Makal at #1 singles would bounce with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Randjelovic to put the Knights up 2-0.
 
Bergmann back to the #2 spot would earn a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Kashtelian before senior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) took a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3 singles as Queens clinched the match 4-0.
 
Berggren would complete her 2-0 evening with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #4 singles over Ermina.
 
With a day off in doubles play, junior Lydia Zafeiri (Athens, Greece) earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #5 singles over Prokopenko before junior Kayla Taszymowicz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) completed the evening with a 6-1, 6-0 at #6 singles.

NEXT MATCH

Queens will use the week to prepare for a crucial ECC showdown on Saturday, Oct. 12 as they match up against the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia in the nation's capital. The first serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
