Women’s Tennis Defeats STAC 6-1 to Conclude ECC Regular Season on a Strong Note

Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. – Looking to conclude their regular season on a strong note before the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, the Queens College women's tennis team welcomed the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College to town in the final ECC match of the year Saturday evening.
 
With the #1 seed up in the air, the Knights would take an early 1-0 lead following a sweep in doubles play before Queens earned five singles victory and clinched the match to the final score of 6-1 inside the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble.
 
With the win, the Knights improved to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in ECC play and clinched the #1 seed for next weekend's ECC Tournament.

DOUBLES ACTION

The Knights #3 doubles pair of graduate student Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and rookie Sakura Saito (Chiba, Japan) would earn a 6-1 victory over Elise Semmartin and Mar Caneves for an early 1-0 lead in doubles action.
 
Queens #2 doubles duo of graduate student Eva Rivoal (Saint-Denis-de-Pile, France) and junior Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) earned a 6-4 victory over Anaya Brons and Kateryna Kryuchkova as the Knights took a 1-0 lead into singles play.
 
The #1 senior doubles pair of Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) would complete the comeback and earn a 7-5 victory over Courtney Fyvie and Elita Silins as Queens completed the sweep in doubles play.

SINGLES ACTION

At #6 singles junior Regina Ruiz (Mexico City, Mexico) earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Caneves as Queens took a 2-0 lead.
 
Lamy at #5 singles knocked off Kryuchkova to the score of 6-0, 6-2 as the Knights took a commanding lead of 3-0.
 
Queens would clinch the match and the #1 seed as Makal earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Semmartin at #3 singles and senior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) defeated Silins at #2 singles to the score of 6-1, 6-3 as the Knights earned their fourth and fifth victory of the evening.
 
Rivoal would fall in a tough match at #1 singles to Brons to the score of 5-7, 4-6 before Berggren earned a three-set victory over Ombeline Robilliart to the score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 at #4 singles as Queens earned a 6-1 match victory for their fourth victory of the year.
