Conrad Records Match-High 16 Kills in Battle Against Golden Knights Friday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing their two-match road stand, the Queens College volleyball team traveled to Albany, N.Y. for a non-conference battle against the Golden Knights of The College of Saint Rose Friday afternoon.
 
Sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carolltown, PA) paced the Knights with a match-high 16 kills, but Queens were unable to complete a comeback rally as they fell to Saint Rose 3-1 (Set Scores: 13-25, 25-19, 26-28, 19-25) inside Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
 
Match 13 Recap (Set Scores: 13-25, 25-19, 26-28, 19-25)
  • After a slow start to the first set, the Knight would attempt a comeback as they trimmed their deficit down to 11-8. 
  • But 10 attacking errors would hurt the Knights as they dropped the first set 25-13. 
  • The second set would see both teams go and back forth in opening eight points. 
  • With the score tied at 4-4, junior Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) and sophomore Elizabeth Cerullo (Saint James, N.Y.) would help the Knights start an 8-2 run as they took a 12-6 advantage. 
  • The home side would attempt to cut into the Knights lead, but with Queens leading 19-14, two Saint Rose errors and a kill by Cerullo would help the visitors widen the gap to 22-14 before earning a 25-19 second set victory to tie the match at 1-1. 
  • For the second straight set, both sides would exchange points in the early going, with the third set tied at 6-6, a kill and service ace from Conrad would help Queens start a 5-1 run as the Knights took an 11-7 lead. 
  • But attacking errors would hurt the Knights as the home side tied the match at 16-16 using a 4-1 run. 
  • Both teams would trade leads before the Knights trailing 23-21 used a 3-0 run to retake a 24-23 lead. 
  • However, the Golden Knights would earn a 28-26 third set victory to take a 2-1 match lead.
  • It would be another swing of points to start the fourth set, but with the set tied at 6-6, a 6-1 run by the home side would see them take a 12-7 lead. 
  • A 6-3 run by the Knights would see them cut their deficit down to 15-13 before a 4-0 run helped the Golden Knights earn a 25-19 fourth set victory to defeat the Knights to the final score of 3-1.  

By the Numbers
  • Conrad led the offense with a match-high 16 kills, eight digs, three blocks, and two service aces. 
  • Earning her first start of the year, Cerullo recorded a season-high nine kills and five digs.
  • Junior Alicia Cervera (Valencia, Spain) tallied eight kills, and five digs, while senior Alexis Deodat (Tampa Bay, FL) notched five kills and two blocks.
  • Boudouris recorded her eighth double-double of the year with 35 assists, 11 digs, three kills, and two service aces.  
  • Sophomore Sarah Munn (Torrance, CA) notched a match-high 16 digs to go with four assists.  

Next Match: Head Coach Stefan Leger and the Knights conclude the month of September inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium on Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon as they welcome the Mavericks of Mercy University in East Coast Conference play. First serve is set for noon.
