WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – On Thursday (June. 29), the East Coast Conference office announced the annual Academic End of the Year awards, and Queens College men's tennis graduate student
Moritz Borges (Dinslaken, Germany) was named Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Borges who is pursuing a Master's Degree holds a 3.9 GPA as an Economics major.
Along with being a high academic student, Borges had an excellent 2022-23 athletic season in his final year for the Knights.
He began the fall advancing to the ITA East Regional Double Tournament final and earned an At-Large bid to the 2022 ITA Cup.
Using the fall momentum, Borges and the Knights would earn East Coast Conference Co-Regular Season Championship honors before earning their fifth ECC title in six seasons with a 4-0 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
On April 20, he would earn ECC All-Conference honors for the third straight year as he was one of three Knights honored.
Queens would earn their 21
st straight NCAA Men's Tournament appearance as they earned hosting rights and the #1 seed in the East Regional Bracket for the first time since the 2017 season.
Following the conclusion of the season, the Knights found themselves ranked #38 in the nation.
Queens is one of two teams in the East region to be ranked in the Top 50 with Thomas Jefferson University ranked 49 in the rankings released on May 24.
While in the East Region, the Knights maintained their #1 regional ranking.

Somadi Druker and the Knights concluded the 2022-2023 season with an overall record of 15-5.
