KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Returning on short rest, the Queens College men's and women's outdoor track & field team concluded a very successful Sunday afternoon as they competed in Coach Omeltchenko Invitational hosted by United States Merchant Marine Academy.
On the men's side, the Knights earned three top finishes as
Doris Desir (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) placed third place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.53.
In the men's triple jump,
Hakeem Griffiths (Portmore, Jamaica) earned a third-place finish with a career-high mark of 12.10m. In the 200m dash, Griffiths recorded a new-high time of 23.89.
While in the Javelin throw,
Albert Wheeler (Mastic, N.Y.) placed second with a mark of 35.20m. But he would earn a career-high time of 11.86 in the 100m dash.
In the men's 800m,
Juan Cruz Ladino (Cali, Colombia) recorded a career-best time of 2:08.59 overtaking the previous best of 2:10.25 set on Saturday (Mar. 25) in the Queens College Season Opener meet.
While the women's team earned seven top-three finishes as they were led by
Fatima Morrobel's (Long Beach, N.Y.) second-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:30.52 as the Long Beach native set a new career-high mark to beat.
In the 5000m,
Alexis Hall (West River, MD) placed second with a time of 20:21.47.
While
Madelyn McMath (Carmel, N.Y.) earned first place in the javelin throw with a mark of 29.32m.
It would be a career day for
Bianca Hiltz (Southwick, Mass) who would earn three first-place finishes beginning with a time of 1:11.13 in the 400m Hurdles. The Southwick native would place first in the long jump with a mark of 5.20m and a 10.65m in the triple jump.
Her 5.20m mark in the long jump set a new career high for the senior.
Lastly in the women's 4x400, the team of
Khareena Primus (St. Andrew, Grenada), Jacklyn Diel (Stony Brook, N.Y.), Morrobel and
Hayley Matthews (Freeport, N.Y.) would earn a first place finish with a time of 4:21.15.
In the women's Hammer field event,
Zae Jackson (Queens, N.Y.) placed fifth with a career-best mark of 25.25m.
