Women’s Tennis Falls Short in Closely Contested Match Against Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Returning to East Regional play, the Queens College women's tennis team (9-7 overall) matched up against the Rams of Jefferson University (17-4 overall) at Salaman Tennis Court Wednesday afternoon. 
 
The Rams would take the doubles point before both sides split the singles action as the Rams earned a 4-3 victory over the Knights. 
 
As the Knights #1 doubles duo of seniors Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) earned a 6-2 victory over Manni Zhang and Anna Morgillo for an early 1-0 lead.
 
The Rams would tie the match at #2 doubles as the duo of junior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) and freshman Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) fell to Noelle Frenzel and Nicole Hrbkova to the score of 6-2.
 
The home side would take a 1-0 lead into singles play as the #3 doubles duo of Chloe Certain (Obernai, France) and sophomore Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) fell 6-4 to the pair of Rose Huang and Charly Egger. 
 
In singles play, Certain would give Queens a 2-1 lead at #5 singles as the French native defeated Morgillo to the score of 6-0, 6-2. 
 
But the Rams would reclaim a 2-1 lead as Lamy fell at #5 singles to Frenzel to the score of 6-4, 6-3. 
 
Fawzy would tie the game with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #3 singles over Zhang before Makal put the Knights up 3-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Hrbkova at #1 singles. 
 
But the Rams would earn the final two singles victory as Hagishima fell to Huang at #6 singles to the score of 6-3, 6-0 before Sciarrotta fell in a three-set heartbreak to Egger to the score of 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 1-6 for the 4-3 victory over the Knights.
 
NEXT MATCH: Head Coach Alan Nagel and the Knights return home as they continue East Regional action on Friday (Apr. 14) afternoon as they welcome the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University to town. First serve set for 12:00 p.m.
