UNSUNSHINE! Rain Victorious as Men’s Tennis Match vs. #3 Barry University Abandoned

ORLANDO, FL – On Wednesday (Apr. 12), the Queens College men's tennis team (13-3 overall) traveled to the Sunshine State for a three-match trip against nationally ranked teams.

On day one, the Knights matched up against defending national champions Barry University (13-5 overall) at the USTA Training Center.

The trip would start on a positive note as Queens clinched the doubles points with victories at #2 and #3 doubles.

The #3 doubles duo of graduate student Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) and junior Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) gave Queens an early 1-0 as they made quick work of Vlad Popescu and Roberto Campoverde to the score of 6-1.

Queens would clinch the doubles points as the #2 doubles duo of graduate student Lluis Miralles Miro (Barcelona, Spain) and senior Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) earned a 6-3 victory over Quinn McLeod and David Rieme.

While the #1 doubles match between junior Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and senior Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) versus Tim Buettner and Adam Lynch went unfinished.

Looking to take their strong start into singles play, rain would ultimately play spoils as the match was abandoned.
