ORLANDO, FL – On Wednesday (Apr. 12), the Queens College men's tennis team
(13-3 overall) traveled to the Sunshine State for a three-match trip against nationally ranked teams.
On day one, the Knights matched up against defending national champions Barry University
(13-5 overall) at the USTA Training Center.
The trip would start on a positive note as Queens clinched the doubles points with victories at #2 and #3 doubles.
The #3 doubles duo of graduate student
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) and junior
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) gave Queens an early 1-0 as they made quick work of Vlad Popescu and Roberto Campoverde to the score of 6-1.
Queens would clinch the doubles points as the #2 doubles duo of graduate student
Lluis Miralles Miro (Barcelona, Spain) and senior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) earned a 6-3 victory over Quinn McLeod and David Rieme.
While the #1 doubles match between junior
Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and senior
Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) versus Tim Buettner and Adam Lynch went unfinished.
Looking to take their strong start into singles play, rain would ultimately play spoils as the match was abandoned.

Somadi Druker and the Knights continue their trip on Thursday (Apr. 13) afternoon as they travel to Lakeland, FL as they match up against #29 Florida Southern College at Wynee Warden Tennis Center. First serve set for 3:00 p.m.
