Women’s Tennis Falls to Division I Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Following a two-week break, the Queens College women's tennis team returned to action against their second Division I NEC member in the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson University inside QC Tennis Bubble Wednesday afternoon. 
 
The Knights began the match earning the doubles points, but would fall in singles action as the visiting Knights took the match to the final score of 5-2 for their second straight victory over Queens. 
 
Queens earned the doubles points as the duo of junior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) and freshman Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) defeated Shreya Gulia and Valentina Silva to the score of 6-2 at #2 doubles. 
 
In a back-and-forth match at #1 doubles, the duo of seniors Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) would earn a comeback victory over Namie Isago and Gauri Bhagia to the score of 7-5 to take an early 1-0 lead. 
 
But FDU would clinch five singles victory over Queens to defeat the home Knights to score of 5-2 with Fawzy earning the lone victory at #3 singles as Bhagia retired hurt. 
 
Doubles Competition:
  1. Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) defeated Namie Isago and Gauri Bhagia 7-5
  2. Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) and Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) defeated Shreya Gulia and Valentina Silva 6-2
  3. Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) and Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) fell 6-4 to Madeleine and Anastasia Lim
Singles Competition:
  1. Makal fell 2-6, 6-2, 3-6 to Lim
  2. Lamy fell 4-6, 3-6 to Gulia
  3. Fawzy defeated Bhagia 7-6 (7-3), WR
  4. Sciarrotta fell 5-7, 2-6 to Isago
  5. Tarbujaru fell 2-6, 1-6 to Silva
  6. Chloe Certain (Obernai, France) fell 3-6, 3-6 to Graber
NEXT MATCH: Head Coach Alan Nagel and the Knights will now prepare for New Jersey City University Gothic Knights on Monday (Mar. 20) afternoon.  The first serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
