WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – On Monday afternoon, the East Coast Conference office announced that nine Queens College student-athletes earned weekly awards in their respective sports for competitions played from March 20 to March 26.
Leading the charge was the men's and women's outdoor track and field team who saw senior
Myles Jackson (San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago) earn Men's Track Athlete of the Week and freshman
Madelyn McMath (Carmel, N.Y.) earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week in the first ECC Outdoor Track & Field Report of the year.
While four Knights were awarded Honor Roll spots as senior
Daniel Fuzailof (Queens, N.Y.), sophomore
Hakeem Griffiths (Portmore, Jamaica), and
Albert Wheeler (Mastic, N.Y.) found a spot on the men's honor roll sheet, while junior
Fatima Morrobel (Long Beach, N.Y.) earned a honor roll spot on the women's side.
In the seventh men's tennis report sheet, senior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) earned his third weekly honors by earning an honor roll spot.
In the fourth softball report sheet, senior
Ann Grimshaw (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) was awarded a honor roll spot for her performance in the Knights four games last week.
and in the sixth baseball report sheet, senior
Anthony Fontana (Wantagh, N.Y.) earned his second straight honors by placing on the honor roll sheet for his performance in the Knights 3-1 week.
Outdoor Track & Field Report – Week One
Myles Jackson (San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago | Senior | Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Jackson earned second place in the men's 400 meters at the Queens College Season Opener with a time of 52.54 before finishing in first place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:49.70.
Madelyn McMath (Carmel, N.Y.) | Freshman | Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Competing in her first-ever meet, McMath placed first in the Javelin at the Queens College Season Opener with a mark of 30.83m.
Daniel Fuzailof (Queens, N.Y.) | Senior | Honor Roll
Fuzailof earned two first place finishes earning first place in the men's 4x100 with a time of 45.86 before earning first place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:49.70. He would earn a fourth place finish in the men's 400 meters with a time of 53.50.
Hakeem Griffiths (Portmore, Jamaica) | Sophomore | Honor Roll
Competing in frigid temperatures, Griffiths placed first place in the men's triple jump with a mark of 11.44m and fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.63m.
Albert Wheeler (Mastic, N.Y.) | Senior | Honor Roll
Competing in his first-ever home meet, Wheeler earned a first place finish in the men's Javelin event with a mark of 36.93m.
Fatima Morrobel (Long Beach, N.Y.) | Junior | Honor Roll
Competing at home for the first time in her career, Morrobel earned a first place finish in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:34.64 in the Queens College Season Opener.
Men's Tennis Report – Week Seven
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) | Senior | Honor Roll
At No. 4 singles, Demuth defeated STAC Lennart Lehmann in straight sets to the score of 6-3, 6-3 in ECC play.
Softball Report – Week Four
Ann Grimshaw (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) | Senior | Utility | Honor Roll
Over four games on the week, Grimshaw batted .467 with a .600 slugging percentage on seven hits, two doubles, and three RBI while recording three multi-hit games. In the comeback 9-8 victory over DYU, the New Hyde Park native went 2-for-4 with two RBI as Queens rallied back to earn their first ECC win of the season.
Baseball Report – Week Six
Anthony Fontana (Wantagh, N.Y.) | Senior | 1B/DH | Honor Roll
Over four games, Fontana batted .471 with a .647 slugging percentage on eight hits, three doubles, four RBI, two runs scored, and earned two walks. Against CSI, the senior recorded three multi-hit games including his third three-hit performance in the 10-9 comeback victory on Friday before he added his second three-RBI performance in the 15-5 victory over the Dolphins and concluded the week with two doubles in the nightcap. In the field, the senior recorded 26 putouts with six doubles play.
