Women’s Tennis Sweeps New Jersey City University Monday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to cross-divisional play, the Queens College women's tennis team (8-4 overall) welcomed the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University (3-3 overall) to the QC Tennis Bubble Monday afternoon.  
 
The Knights began the match earning the doubles points before picking up six singles victories over the Gothic Knights to earn a 7-0 victory.
 
It was a quick victory at #3 doubles as sophomore Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) and junior Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) defeated Sara Zorzan and Mar Julia to the score of 6-0 as Queens took an early 1-0 lead into doubles play.
 
The Knights would clinch the doubles point at #1 doubles as the senior duo of Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) earned a 6-3 victory over Eliza Clamor and Vanshita Malhotra for a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

The #2 doubles pair of junior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) and freshman Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) would fall to Giada Zorzan and Sophia Jurina to the score of 6-4.
 
Hagishima would quickly dispatch Julia at #6 singles to the score of 6-0, 6-0 to give Queens a 2-0 lead.
 
Lamy would put the Knights ahead 3-0 following a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #2 singles over Clamor.
 
Sciarrotta would clinch the match at #4 single over Zorzan to the score of 6-2, 6-2.
 
Makal put the Knights en route to a sweep as she defeated Zorzan to the score of 6-2, 6-4 at #1 singles.
 
Queens would complete the afternoon sweep at #5 singles at Chloe Certain (Obernai, France) as the French native defeated Jurina to the score of 6-3, 6-4 before Fawzy rounded out the sweep at #3 singles with a three-set victory over Malhotra to the score of 6-2, 4-6, 11-9.
 
NEXT MATCH: Head Coach Alan Nagel and the Knights will hit the road to New Providence, N.J. as they match up against Division I Big East member Seton Hall University on Friday (Mar. 31) afternoon. The first serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
