Men’s Tennis Make it a Perfect Week, Goes 4-0 with Victory over D1 Merrimack

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Looking to end their week on a high note, the Queens College men's tennis team (9-2 overall) ended the week with a 4-0 record as they defeated the visiting Merrimack College Warriors (6-6 overall) Saturday evening inside the Queens College Tennis Bubble. 
 
The Knights would make it four victories in four straight days as they went 26-2 in four matches to improve their record to 9-2 on the year. 
 
Saturday's win over the Warriors was the Knights' third victory and second in a row as they improved their record to 3-2 over their former D2 foe. 
 
Queens began the evening sweeping the doubles to take an early 1-0 lead before clinching four singles matches to earn the victory. 
 
The #3 doubles duo of graduate student Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) and sophomore Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) dispatched Pedro de Godoy and Daksh Agarwal to the score of 6-0 to take the first match of the evening. 
 
The #1 doubles of junior Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and senior Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) earned the doubles point as they defeated Henrik Lindeman and Andre Singer to the score of 6-4. 
 
Queens would complete the sweep at #2 doubles as the duo of graduate student Lluis Miralles Miro (Barcelona, Spain) and senior Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) earned a tiebreaker win of 7-6 (7-4) over Charles Robertson and Valentin Riveros for the sweep. 
 
Miro picked up where he left in doubles with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Riveros at #5 singles to give Queens a 2-0 lead. 
 
It would become 3-0 following senior Mariano Bibiloni's (La Plata, Argentina) victory at #4 singles over Agarwal with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
 
The Knights would clinch the match at #1 singles as Rikkonen defeated Lindeman to the score of 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) as Queens earned their fourth victory in four days. 
 
Rashad would fall at #2 singles to Robertson to the score of 6-3, 6-3 before junior Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) fell at #6 singles to Godoy to the score of 6-3, 7-5.
 
Demuth would clinch the final point of the evening as he fought from a first set loss of 6-2 to Singer. He would earn a 6-2, 10-5 as the Knights earned a 5-2 victory in the cross-divisional matchup. 
 
UP NEXT: Head coach Somadi Druker and the Knights will wrap up their homestand as they welcome defending East Coast Conference champions Saint Thomas Aquinas College Spartans to town on Friday (Mar. 24) afternoon. First serve set for 1:00 p.m.
