Women’s Basketball Comeback Rally Falls Short Against Molloy Saturday Afternoon

­ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon freshman Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) and sophomore Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) combined for 33 points to lead the Queens College women's basketball team offense against Molloy University Lions in East Coast Conference action at Quealy Gymnasium.

The Knights took an early 7-4 lead at the 7:39 mark before the Lions went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-7 lead with 5:23 left in the first quarter. 
 
Reeves would stop the scoreless drought for Queens with a layup at the 3:59 mark before the home side closed the first stanza on a 7-2 run to take a 17-11 lead heading into the second quarter. 
 
The Lions would continue to stay ahead as they built an 11-point lead of 24-13 with another 7-2 run to open the second quarter. 
 
With the Knights trailing 24-13 with 8:36 left in the second, graduate student Raven Pitt (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied six straight points to bring Queens with seven, 26-19 with 4:17 left until halftime. 
 
The Lions extended their lead back to 10, 29-19 before Davis tallied four quick points to bring the visitors within six, 29-23 with 1:23 to go in the first half.
 
But a three-pointer from the Lions would see the home side take a nine-point lead of 32-23 at halftime. 
 
Queens would trade buckets in the early going of the third quarter as the Knights cut their deficit down to seven, 37-30 with 6:53 left in the stanza. 
 
As the Knights missed their next eight shots, the Lions would tally a 6-0 run as they took a 13-point lead of 43-30 with 3:58 to go. 
 
Two made free throws from Davis would stop the Knights drought before each side traded buckets but with the Lions shooting 53.33% in the third, the home side would take a 12-point lead of 50-38 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. 
 
After the Lions extended their lead to 14 points, 52-38 with 9:20 to go, Reeves would tally five quick points to bring them within nine, 43-52 with 8:45 left in the game. 
 
Queens would go scoreless over the next two minutes as the Lions extended their advantage to 11, 54-43 with 8:00 in the game. 
 
Queens would hold the lions without a field goal (0-8) over the final 8:00 minutes of play as they forced eight turnovers as Davis and the Knights went on a 9-0 run to cut the score down to two, 54-52 with 38 seconds left in the game. 
 
After Queens forced another turnover in their 14-2 run comeback and seven seconds left in the game, Reeves's game-winner would get blocked as the Lions held on for the 54-52 ECC victory. 
 
Game Highlights
  • Davis tallied a game-tying-and-team high 17 points (7-18 FG) to go with nine rebounds and three steals. 
  • Reeves notched 16 points (4-11 FG) to go with eight rebounds and one steal.
  • Pitt recorded eight points (3-14 FG), team-high five assists, three rebounds, and three steals on the afternoon.
  • The Knights shot 28.1% going 18-64 from the field, while the Lions shot 36.1% from the field with a 22-61 field goal performance.
    • Queens forced 24 Lions turnovers as they held a 17-10 edge on points off turnovers.
