STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – On Wednesday evening freshman
Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) notched her fourth East Coast Conference double-double of her career with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Queens College women's basketball offense against the Dolphins of College of Staten Island at the Sports & Recreation Center.
Game Recap
The Knights got off to a quick start as Davis tallied the first six points of the evening before the Dolphins responded with a 5-0 run.
With the Knights leading 6-5, Davis would lead a 5-0 run with junior
Kendra McPeek (Binghamton, N.Y.) as Queens took an 11-5 lead with 3:14 left in the first quarter.
But the Dolphins would go on a 7-0 run to take a 12-11 lead before sophomore
Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) beat the buzzer to retake a 13-12 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Dolphins would reclaim the lead at the 8:35 mark on a three-pointer for a 15-13 advantage before graduate student
Raven Pitt (Valley Stream, N.Y.) helped the Knights put together a 6-2run as Queens went up 19-17 with 6:17 left until halftime.
Queens would go 1-7 from the field over the final 4:57 of the second quarter as the home side ended the quarter on a 7-2 run taking a 24-21 lead at halftime.
The first-half shooting struggles would carry into the third quarter, while the Dolphins opened the quarter with a 6-1 run as they took a 30-22 lead with 7:53 left in the stanza.
McPeek would stop the drought at the 7:24 mark to bring them within six, 30-24 before both sides went scoreless from 7:04 to 4:37 before Davis's jumper got Queens within four, 30-26.
But a 5-0 run by the Dolphins would see them take an 11-point lead of 37-26 before the Knights put together an 8-0 run over the final 2:01 of the third quarter to cut their deficit down to three, 37-34 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
The stoppage of play in between quarters would hurt the Knights' comeback attempt as they missed their first six shots of the fourth quarter while the Dolphins extended their lead back to seven, 41-34.
Davis would break the drought with a three-pointer at the 6:23 mark to bring them within four, 41-37 but it would be the closest Queens would get as the Dolphins earned the series split with a 57-46 conference victory.
