Women’s Basketball Awaka Earns Fourth ECC Rookie Honors; MBB Bentinck Finds Honor Roll Spot on Week 4 Weekly Report Sheet

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – On Monday (Dec. 4) afternoon, the East Coast Conference announced Week 4 of the men's & women's basketball weekly report sheet, and Queens College women's basketball rookie Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) and men's basketball senior Malik Bentinck (Queens, N.Y.) was honored for their performances from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3.

Women's Basketball – Week 4

ECC Rookie of the Week – Nkiru Awaka (Freshman | Hyde Park, N.Y.)
  • It is the fourth straight week Awaka has earned top Rookie of the Week Honors.
  • Awaka averaged a double-double with 12.5 points on 42.9% shooting and 10.0 rebounds to go with 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks over two games. The Hyde Park native began the week with nine points, and eight rebounds to go with two blocks and one steal in the ECC opener against UDC on Wednesday evening. Awaka would conclude her week as she recorded her third double-double of the year and first in conference play with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting with 12 rebounds and recorded one block and three steals against CSI Saturday afternoon. 

Men's Basketball – Week 4

ECC Honor Roll – Malik Bentinck (Senior | Queens, N.Y.)
  • For the second time this year Bentinck has earned a Honor Roll spot on the ECC men's basketball weekly award sheet and first since Nov. 20.
  • Bentinck averaged 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks over the course of two games. Against UDC Wednesday evening Bentinck recorded a career-best night with his second double-double of the year and first in ECC play with 14 points, and 13 rebounds to go with one block and two steals as Queens earned their first ECC opener victory since the 2019-2020 season.
