Women’s Basketball Concludes CACC/ECC Conference Challenge Against Chestnut Hill Sunday Afternoon

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Sophomore center Gianna Henriques (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded her first career double-double and freshman forward Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) tallied a career-high 12 points as the Queens College women's basketball concluded the CACC/ECC Conference Challenge Sunday (Nov. 12) afternoon against the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College inside Quealy Gymnasium.

Game Recap

It would be a back and forth in the affair in the first quarter of play as both sides struggled in the early going. With the Knights trailing 8-7 with 3:16 to go, Awaka and sophomore guard Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) would put the Knights up 11-8, but a late made three-pointer from Griffins would see the game tied at 11-11 heading into the second quarter.

Queens would open the scoring in the second quarter behind a jumper from junior forward Lateisha Willis (Nottingham, England) as the Knights took a 13-11 lead.

But Chestnut Hill would go on a 15-3 run as they took a 26-16 lead with 2:10 left before Queens cut their deficit in half with a 7-2 run as they went into halftime trailing 28-23.

Both teams would come out of the gate cold before a jumper from Willis started a 6-1 run for the Knights to tie the game at 29-29 with 5:33 left in the third quarter.

A made three-pointer from freshman guard Jalea Abrams (Elmira, N.Y.) would give the Knights a 32-31 lead. But the Griffins would go on a 13-4 run to end the quarter as they took a 44-36 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

However a slow start to begin the fourth quarter would hurt the Knights as they were unable to recover to drop the non-conference contest to the final score of 63-46 Sunday afternoon.
