Women’s Tennis Sweeps Molloy Saturday Evening in ECC Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Opening East Coast Conference play inside the Queens College Tennis Bubble, the Queens College women's tennis welcomed the Lions of Molloy University to Flushing Saturday evening.
 
After a sweep in doubles play to begin the evening, the Knights would earn six singles victories for a 7-0 victory over the Lions. 
 
With the victory, the Knights improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in ECC play. 
 
Doubles
 
To begin the evening play, the #3 doubles pair of junior Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) and graduate student Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) made their season debut in dual play with a 6-0 victory over Isabella Fortaleza and Julia Salazar. 
 
Queens would clinch the doubles point at the #2 double court as the French pair of sophomore Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) and Graduate student Eva Rivoal (Saint Denis de Pile, France) earned a 6-0 sweep over Camilla Caballero and Maggie Kutner. 
 
The Knights would complete at #1 doubles as senior Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and junior Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) earned a 6-1 victory over Noor Goyvaerts and Alice Fartushynska. 
 
Singles
 
Queens wasted no time in extending their lead as Bergmann would put the Knights up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory over Salazar at #6 singles court. 
 
Berggren put the Knights one win victory away from clinching the match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Kutner at #4 court. 
 
Having doubles duty off, junior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) would clinch the match for the Knights at the #3 singles court with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Fartushynska. 
 
At #1 singles, Makal would earn a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Caballero to give the Knights a 5-0 advantage. 
 
Lamy extended the Knights' advantage to 6-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Goyvaerts. 
 
After missing the 2022-23 season due to an injury, sophomore Kayla Taszymowicz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) would make her season debut in dual play at #5 singles court. Taszymowicz would battle in the first set against Fortaleza before earning a 6-3 victory. The Brooklyn native would cruise in the second set with a 6-1 victory as the Knights earned their first sweep of the season. 
 

UP NEXT: Head coach Alan Nagel and the Knights open a two-match in non-conference play to open the week with a trip to Orangeburg, N.Y. on Monday (Oct. 9) afternoon against the Chargers of Dominican University of New York. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
