Three Match Road Trip Opens as Volleyball Battles Mercy Sunday Afternoon

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Opening a three-match road stand, the Queens College volleyball team traveled to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. with a matchup against the Mavericks of Mercy University inside the Neil Judge Student Athlete Center.
 
In a match that saw 23 ties and seven lead changes, the Knights were unable to complete a comeback rally they fell 3-0 (Set Scores: 20-25, 23-25, 15-25) Sunday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Knights move to 12-8 overall and 6-3 in ECC play.
 

Match 20 Recap (Set Scores: 20-25, 23-25, 15-25)
  • The first set would be a back-and-forth affair as both sides exchanged the first 16 points but with the score tied at 8-8, the Mavericks would open a 5-0 run to take a 12-8 lead.
  • Queens would battle back as sophomore Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, FL) recorded a kill and junior Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) notched back-to-back service aces to tie the set at 12-12.
  • However, attacking errors would hurt the Knights as a Mavericks 8-2 run would help them earn a 25-20 first set victory.
  • The second set would see another see-saw of points exchanged, but with the set tied at 9-9, the Knights took a three-point lead of 12-9 before the Mavericks rallied back to tie the set at 13-13.
  • Neither team was able to build a cushion but with Queens leading 23-22, Mercy would end the set on a 3-0 run to take a 2-0 lead.
  • It would be a sluggish start to the third set but with the set tied at 4-4,  a 6-2 Mavericks run would see the home side build a cushion to defeat the Knights to the final score of 25-15 and take a 3-0 victory. 

By the Numbers
  • Sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) led the offense with 10 kills to go with three digs and two blocks.
  • Osterhoudt recorded eight kills and three blocks on the afternoon.
  • Boudouris notched 29 assists, six digs, and two service aces.

Next Match: Head Coach Stefan Leger and the Knights conclude their 2023 road trip with a weekend in Buffalo beginning on Saturday (Nov. 4) morning as they match up against Daemen University in Amherst. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
