Volleyball Battles Daemen in ECC Matchup

AMHERST, N.Y. – Continuing their three-game match road trip, the Queens College volleyball team matched up against the Wildcats of Daemen University inside Lumsden Gymnasium in East Coast Conference play Saturday morning.
 
Attacking errors would haunt the Knights as they were unable to rally back as they fell in three straights to the Wildcats to the final score of 3-0 (Set Scores: 14-25, 19-25, 17-25)
 
With the loss, the Knights move to 12-9 overall and 6-4 in ECC play.
 

Match 21 Recap (Set Scores: 14-25, 19-25, 17-25)
  • Trailing 2-0, the Knights would take an early lead of 5-3 as junior Alicia Cervera (Valencia, Spain) recorded two service aces as Queens used a 5-1 run.
  • But with the Knights leading 7-6, the Wildcats would go on a 13-2 run to take a 1-0 match lead with a 25-14 first set victory over the Knights.
  • Daemen opened the second set with a 6-2 advantage before Queens rallied back to tie the second set at 10-10.
  • But once again another 6-2 run by the Wildcats saw the Knights fall behind 16-12 before Queens used a 6-3 run to get within one, 19-18.
  • However, the Wildcats would close out the second set with a 6-1 run to take a 2-0 commanding lead with a 25-19 second set victory.
  • The third set would be another back-and-forth affair in the early going, but with the set tied at 8-8, a 5-0 run by the Wildcats would see them jump ahead 13-8 before Queens attempted a comeback with a 4-1 run to get within two, 14-12.
  • Trailing 18-13, Queens would go on a 3-0 run as they cut their deficit down to 18-16. But the home side would end the match on a 7-1 run to complete the ECC sweep with a 25-17 victory.

By the Numbers
  • Sophomore Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, FL) recorded five kills, to go with two blocks.
  • While the duo of junior Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) combined for eight kills, 13 digs, two blocks, and two service aces.
  • Junior Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) recorded 16 assists, five digs and two blocks.

Next Match: Head Coach Stefan Leger and the Knights conclude their 2023 road trip on Sunday (Nov. 5) afternoon with a matchup against the Saints of D'Youville University in ECC play. First serve is set for noon.
