WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – On Thursday (Oct. 27) afternoon, the East Coast Conference office announced the 2023 All-Conference First and Second Teams, and five Queens College women's tennis student-athletes were honored for their tremendous performances throughout the fall regular season.
While head coach
Alan Nagel who is in his 45
th year in charge of the Knights was honored as he was named Co-Coach of the Year.

With an undefeated record of 5-0 in conference play, Nagel and the Knights clinched their first ECC regular season championship since the 2019 season and earned the #1 seed in the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament.

Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France), senior
Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland), junior
Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) and graduate student
Eva Rivoal (Saint Denis de Pile, France) were awarded All-Conference honors.
Caroline Hany-Fawzy | Alexandria, Egypt | Junior | First-Team All Conference

For the second straight season, Fawzy has earned All-Conference honors as the junior earned her first ever First Team All-Conference honors.
It was a tremendous season for the Egyptian native as she went 7-0 overall in dual singles and 4-1 in doubles play. While in ECC play the junior went undefeated in singles play finishing with a record 5-0 with victories coming at #1, #2, and #3 singles play. In ECC doubles play Fawzy went 2-1.
Apolline Lamy | Toulouse, France | Sophomore | First-Team All Conference

In her second year in Flushing, Lamy earned First-Team All Conference honors joining Fawzy and Makal.
In dual matches, Lamy went 6-0 overall in singles play and 5-1 in doubles play. While in ECC play, the French native went undefeated with a record of 5-0 with victories coming at #2, #3, and #4 singles play and a 4-1 record in doubles play.
In the Knights' tough 4-3 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas, Lamy would clinch the match at #4 singles to give Queens the win before Queens went on to earn four straight sweeps in conference play.
Maja Makal | Bialystok, Poland | Senior | First-Team All Conference

For the fourth time in her career Makal has earned First-Team All Conference honors to round out her ECC regular season resume.
Since stepping foot on the campus of Queens College, Makal has continued to stand out above her competition.
In ECC play Makal went 4-0 in singles with victories coming at #1 and #2, while in doubles play, she would go 3-1 at #1 doubles.
Saga Berggren | Uddevalla, Sweden | Junior | Second-Team All Conference

In her first year in Flushing, Berggren has earned Second-Team All Conference honors as she helped the Knights clinch the #1 seed and the program's first Regular Season Championship since the 2019 season.
On the year Berggren went 5-1 in dual singles play and 4-2 in doubles play. While in ECC play the junior went 3-1 in singles play at #3, #4 & #5 courts, and in doubles, she would go 3-1 during the regular season.

Eva Rivoal | Saint Denis de Pile, France | Graduate Student | Second-Team All Conference
In her first year in Flushing, Rioval was another standout for the Knights on their road to clinching the #1 seed and the Regular Season Championship.
The French native went 6-3 during the regular season including an impressive run in the ITA East Regional Tournament as she advanced to the Quarterfinal round of the Singles Tournament.
While in doubles play, it would be another impressive run that saw the graduate student go 4-1 in ECC play.
East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament
Nagel and the Knights now turn their attention to the ECC Championship tournament which gets underway Friday (Oct. 28) morning as they enter the tournament as the #1 seed.
The Knights will match up with #4 seed Daemen University Wildcats at 9 a.m. as they look to return to the ECC Final on Saturday (Oct. 28) afternoon.
On the other side of the bracket, defending champions and #2 seed Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College will match up against #3 seed Firebirds of The University of the District of Columbia.
