FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to East Coast Conference play to conclude the week, the Queens College women's tennis team welcomed the Firebirds of The University of the District of Columbia to the QC Tennis Bubble Saturday evening.
The Knights would begin the evening by sweeping doubles action before completing a sweep in singles play for a 7-0 victory over the Firebirds Saturday evening.
With the victory, the Knights improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in ECC play.
Doubles
To begin doubles play, the #3 doubles pair of junior
Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) and senior
Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) earned a 6-2 victory over the duo of Lina Benjelloun and Celia Bastin for a 1-0 lead.
Queens would clinch the doubles points following a victory at #2 doubles court as the duo of sophomore
Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) and graduate student
Eva Rivoal (Saint Denis de Pile, France) earned a 6-3 victory over Mariona Franco and Claudia Bahamon for a 1-0 match lead.
It would be a hard-fought battle for the #1 doubles pair of senior
Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and junior
Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) as the pair earned a 7-6
(7-3) victory over Sofia Bellucco and Laura Marie to complete the sweep in doubles action.
Singles
The Knights would take a 2-0 lead at #6 singles as Tarbujaru earned a default victory.
Queens would go up 3-0 following a victory at #5 singles with Berggren earning a first set victory of 6-2 before Bastin retired hurt giving the junior a victory.
Fawzy would clinch the match at #3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Bellucco as Queens took a 4-0 lead.
Makal would defeat Franco at #2 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory for a 5-0 advantage.
Queens would complete the sweep following Lamy's victory at #4 singles over Bahamon to the score of 6-1, 6-1 before Rivoal earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory at #1 singles over Marie to close out the evening to the final score of 7-0 over the Firebirds.

Alan Nagel and the Knights conclude the regular season with a weekend trip to Buffalo, N.Y. beginning on Friday (Oct. 20) evening against the Wildcats of Daemen University in ECC play. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
