DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Returning to East Coast Conference action on the road to conclude the week, the Queens College men's basketball team ended the first half on a 22-5 run to defeat the host Mavericks of Mercy College inside the Neil Judge Student Athlete Center Saturday afternoon.
Three Knights scored in double-figures led by senior
Tyler Carey's (Bay Shore, N.Y.) seventh double-double of the season with game-high 16 points, and 20 rebounds, sophomore
Jayden Seraphin's (Lakeview, N.Y.) first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. While senior
William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) who had missed the Knights last 10 games tallied 15 points in his return off the bench as the Knights earned an 82-56 victory.
Saturday's win over the Mavericks was the Knights third straight victory in Dobbs Ferry.
Game Recap
Queens opened the game with a 6-2 run before the Mavericks tied the game 6-6 with 17:22 left in the first half.
Sophomore
Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) would lead the Knights on a 10-2 run over the next 2:30 minutes of play as the Knights extended their lead to 16-8 with 14:30 to go.
A 5-1 run by the host would see Queens lead cut down to four, 17-13 before the Knights answered back with a 5-0 run of their own to extend their lead to nine, 22-13 with 12:29 left in the first half.
Mercy would answer back with a 12-3 run from the 11:59 mark to the 8:47 mark to knot the game at 25-25.
Over the final 8:10 minutes of the first half, Ellis would start a 22-5 run for the Knights as Queens went 7-14 from the field, with four made three-pointers as they forced three turnovers and held the Mavericks to 1-7 from the field to take a 47-30 lead heading into halftime.
After the Mavericks opened the scoring in the second half to cut the score down to 47-32, Carey would lead the Knights on a 13-5 run from the 18:38 mark to the 15:35 as they took a 23-point lead of 60-37 and never looked back to take the first meeting of the season over the Mavericks to the final score of 82-56 Saturday afternoon.

- Carey recorded his second double-double of the week and seventh of the season with game-high 16 points (6-11) to go with a career-high 20 rebounds.
- The 20 rebounds are a season-high by an ECC men's basketball player this season overtaking the previous mark of 17 Carey set himself against D'Youville on December 2.
- It is the second time in program history a Queens player has tallied 20 rebounds in a single game.
- The 20 rebounds are the second most by a Knights in program history since Greg Vaughn tallied 26 rebounds during the 1976-77 season.
- Just for the second time this season Carey did not register a block as he saw his 11-game blocking streak come to an end.
- Returning to play for the first time since Dec. 2, Ellis notched 15 points (4-11 FG) to go with three rebounds off the bench.
- Seraphin extended his double-digit scoring streak to 10 games as the Lakeview native recorded his first career double-double with 13 points (6-15 FG) with a career-high 12 rebounds and five assists on the afternoon.
- Queens shot 42.3% as they went 30-71 from the field while holding the Mavericks to 23-65 from the field on a 35.4% shooting performance.
- The Knights made a season-high 12 made three-pointers on the season with the duo of freshman Eric Tynes (Springfield, MA.) and sophomore Tyron Wright (Camby, IN) combining for 6-13 on the afternoon.
- The Knights held a season-high 56-30 rebounds margin including a 20-8 edge on the offensive end as they scored 20-8 in second-chance points.
