WBB Davis Records Career-High 16 Points against STAC in ECC Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. – ­On Wednesday night, freshman Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) fell short of her third double-double as she recorded a career-high 16 points while junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 12 points, but Queens College women's basketball team would fall short of an East Coast Conference victory over the visiting Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

It was all Davis in the first quarter as she led the Knights' offense in a quick 8-3 start. 
 
But Queens would stay ahead at the end of the first quarter despite the Spartans ending the quarter on a 5-2 run as the Knights held a slim 14-13 lead.
 
Both teams would trade buckets in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but the Knights trailing by 18-16, Davis led the Knights on an 8-2 run as Queens took a 24-20 lead with 3:42 to go until halftime.
 
After the Spartans trimmed the lead down to two, 24-22, Demry two made free throws would allow Queens to take a 26-22 lead at halftime. 
 
Queens would open the third quarter on a 4-2 run as they extend their lead to eight, 32-24 with 8:04 to go. 
 
After a Spartans three-pointer cut Queens lead down to three, another 4-0 run by the Knights would give them their largest lead of the game of nine, 36-27 forcing a Spartans timeout with 6:40 left in the quarter. 
 
With the Knights leading 39-31 with 4:03 left in the third, the visitors would go on a 10-0 run as they reclaimed a slim of lead 40-39. 
 
Demry would break the scoreless drought for Queens on a jumper before both sides traded made free throws, but junior Kendra McPeek (Binghamton, N.Y.) two made free throws would allow the Knights to hold onto a slim lead of 43-42 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. 
 
The Spartans opened the fourth on a 6-0 run to retake the lead of 48-43 with 7:32 to go. 
 
The Knights would be held scoreless until 6:37 before McPeek stopped the scoreless drought for Queens before a made three-pointer tied the game at 48-48 with 5:28 left in the game. 
 
In a game that saw 11 lead changes and five ties, the Spartans would close the game on a 12-2 run as the Knights went 0-7 from the field in the final 4:19 minutes of play to drop the conference contest to the final score of 60-50 Wednesday evening. 
 
Game Highlights
  • Davis led the offense with a career-high 16 points (8-14 FG) eight rebounds, four steals (career-high), and two blocks.
  • Demry recorded 12 points (5-13 FG), while McPeek tallied a career-high nine points (3-4 FG, 3-4 FT) to go with eight rebounds, one block, and two steals. 
  • Queens added 11 assists on 20 made field goals.
  • The Knights shot 34.5% going 20-58 from the field, while the Spartans shot 42.9% from the field with a 24-56 field goal performance.
    • Fourth quarter struggles would hurt the Knights comeback attempt as they went 2-14 from the field.
