Sophomores Lead MBB Offense in ECC Battle Against UDC

FLUSHING, N.Y. – For the second straight East Coast Conference a sophomore duo led the Queens College men's basketball team offense as Jayden Seraphin (Lakeview, N.Y.) and Tyron Wright (Camby, IN) combined for 32 points against the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

Game Recap

It was another sluggish start for the Knights on the offensive end as they missed their first six shots while the Firebirds took an early 4-0 lead with 17:06 left in the first half and never looked back.

Sophomore Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) would get Queens on the board at the 15:56 mark but the home side would jump out to a 14-4 lead with 13:04 left until halftime.

A three-pointer from sophomore Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) would break a two-minute scoreless drought for Queens as they cut the score down to 14-7, but a 6-0 run by the Firebirds would put them up by 13, 20-7 with 10:51 remaining.

Trailing by 13, 31-18 with 4:54 to go, Chester and the Knights would go on an 8-2 run as they cut their deficit down to seven, but a buzz beater by the Firebirds would put the home side up by nine, 35-26 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Seraphin and Wright combined for 18 points as Queens looked to make a comeback rally.

But 14 turnovers would hurt Queens attempt to make a run as the Firebirds shot 55.6% from the field in the second half to earn the 72-60 conference victory over the Knights.
