WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Playing their first dual match of the season, the Queens College men's tennis team matched up against Division I member Monmouth University Hawks Wednesday morning.
The Knights were shut out as the Hawks picked up the 7-0 victory.
Doubles Play
At #3 doubles junior
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / graduate student
Lluis Miralles Miro (Barcelona, Spain) fell to Lucca Silva/Diego Laporta to the score of 6-1.
The Hawks would clinch the double points at #2 double as the duo of graduate student
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) / junior
Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) fell 6-3 to Dmitry Bezborodov/Gabriel Busato.
At the #1 doubles, the pair of sophomore
Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) / senior
Kareem Rashad(Alexandria, Egypt) fought hard but fell to the score of 7-5 against Niels Van Noord/Charlie Penman.
Singles Play
Rikkonen fell first at #3 singles as he was defeated to the score of 6-3, 6-3 against Bezdorodov.
At #2 singles, Rashad dropped the first set to the score of 6-1 against Victor Castro before falling 6-4 in the second set.
The Hawks clinched the match at #4 singles as Miro was defeated by Alexander Zuckerman to the score of 6-1, 6-2.
Henricy would at #1 singles to Noord as he fell in straight sets to the score of 6-3, 6-2.
At #5 singles, senior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) battled Christof Zeiler in the first set, but Demuth would fall 7-5, 6-3.
Shehawey would drop the first set 6-3 to Laporta before he forced a tiebreaker in the second set. But the experience to Laporta would earn the home side win as Shehawey fell 7-6
(3-0).
UP NEXT: It will be a short rest for the Knights as Head coach
Somadi Druker and her Knights get set to compete in the ITA East Region Tournament beginning Thursday (Sept. 21) morning. The first round is set to start at 9:00 A.M.
