ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – On Tuesday evening, the Queens College volleyball team opened game one of a season-high eight match road trip as they matched up against the Chargers of Dominican University New York at Hennessy Center.
Despite having a lead in two sets, the Knights were unable to close each set as they fell 3-0 to the Chargers to move to 2-3 on the season.

The opening set saw both teams exchange points in the early going, with the Knights leading 7-4, the Chargers fought back to tie the set 7-7. Back-to-back errors by Dominican would give Queens a 9-7 advantage. But a 3-0 run would see the home side go up 10-9 before rookie
Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) tallied a kill to tie first set 10-10.
With the Knights leading 13-12, a 4-0 Chargers run would swing the momentum and force a Knights timeout as they trailed 16-13. Queens would respond out of the timeout as Conrad and senior
Anjeline Arnakis (Bayside, N.Y.) tallied two kills to bring them within one, 16-15.
But Dominican closed out the first set on a 7-2 run to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-19 first-set victory.
To start the second set, Queens fell behind 7-0 and would never recover as Dominican continued to take advantage of a young Knights squad. The Knights would find themselves trailing 2-0 as they dropped the second set 25-17.
Looking to rally back, senior
Alexis Deodat (Tampa Bay, FL) led the charge in the early going with two kills as the Knights took a 3-2 lead in the third set.
But Errors would continue to hurt the visitors as the home side went on a 5-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. Trailing 9-6,
Leila Hadjeb (Queens, N.Y.) started a 5-0 run with two service aces as they fought back to take an 11-9 lead forcing a Dominican timeout.
Queens held two slim leads of 16-13, and 19-18 lead as they looked to have found the momentum to force a fourth set. But the Chargers stayed one step ahead of the Knights as they completed their comeback to sweep the Knights 3-0 with a 25-20 third-set victory.
