Men’s Tennis Advances to Eighth Straight ECC Final

FLUSHING, N.Y. –  The Queens College men's tennis team East Coast Conference title defense got underway on a high note as the top-seeded #1 Knights swept #4 Daemen University Wildcats Friday afternoon at Queens College Tennis Bubble. 
 
With the win, the Knights improved to 16-7 overall, while the Wildcats moved to 3-17 overall. 
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights took an early lead as the #3 doubles pair of sophomore Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina ) / senior Julius Schulte (Dusseldorf, Germany) defeated Ross Belen/Jayven Williamson to the score of 6-1. 
 
Queens would take a 1-0 lead into singles competition as the #2 doubles pair of freshman Philipp Uhde (Heidelberg, Germany) / senior Hugo Evangelista de Andrade (Goiania, Brazil) defeated Zachary LaPlante/Phillip Vance to the score of 6-2. 
 
Singles Competition
 
The Knights wasted no time in taking a 2-0 lead as Gonzalez dispatched Belen at #5 singles to the score of 6-2, 6-0. 
 
Uhde put the Knights one match away from advancing to the final with a two-set shutout victory over Williamson at #6 singles to the score of 6-0, 6-0. 
 
Sophomore Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) would clinch the match for the Knights with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sam Greco at #4 singles to advance the Knights to their eighth straight ECC final. 
 
UP NEXT: Head Coach Somadi Druker and the Knights will now defend their title against #2 seed St. Thomas Aquinas College who defeated District of Columbia 4-0. The first serve is set for noon.
