Men’s Tennis Rallies Back, Defeat Chestnut Hill to Extend Winning Streak

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Playing their fourth straight road game of the week, the nationally-ranked #45 Queens College men's tennis team took on nationally-ranked #46 Chestnut Hill College Griffins at CHC Tennis Courts. 
 
In a match where both teams are right behind each other in the national and regional ranking, it was the Griffins who took the opening point before the Knights rallied back with five singles wins to defeat the home side 5-2 Saturday afternoon. 
 
With the win, the Knights moved to 14-7 overall, while the Griffins moved to 10-4 overall.
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights took an early 1-0 lead as the #2 doubles pair of junior Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) / junior Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) won 6-4 over Noah Cutting/Mark Gladkyy. 
 
But the Griffins would battle back with the last two doubles matches going into the tiebreaker. Queens #3 doubles duo of junior Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina ) / sophomore Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) fell 7-5 to Domagoj Dugandzic/Joao Sousa. 
 
The home side would clinch the double points in tiebreaker fashion as the Knights' #1 doubles duo of sophomore Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / senior Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) fell in a heartbreaker 7-6 (12-10) to Tom Pitchley/Joseph Gregory Kvint. 
 
Singles Competition
 
Rashad wasted no time in knotting the score 1-1 with a two-set victory at #1 singles over Pitchley to the score of 6-3, 6-2. 
 
Shehawey put Queens up 2-1 as he defeated Sousa to the score of 6-3, 6-2 at #4 singles. 
 
The Knights would take a commanding lead of 3-1 as sophomore Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina ) picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #6 singles over Gladkyy. 
 
But the Griffins would cut the trim lead to 3-2 as Bibiloni fell at #2 singles to Cutting to the score of 6-2, 6-4.
 
Borges would clinch the match for the Knights at #5 singles as he defeated Dugandzic to the score of 6-4, 6-4. 
 
Queens would conclude the afternoon with a 5-2 victory as Demuth won at #3 singles over Kvint to the score of 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. 
 
UP NEXT: Head Coach Somadi Druker and the Knights continue non-conference play as they travel to Millersville, PA with a matchup against Millersville University Monday (Apr. 18) afternoon. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
