Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Makal, Schmidt Victorious, but WTEN Falls to DI Stony Brook 5-2

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Playing their final cross-divisional match of the season, the Queens College women's tennis team went up against Stony Brook University Seawolves at University Court Friday afternoon. 
 
But the Knights would fall short against the DI opponent with a 5-2 loss. 
 
With the loss, the Knights moved to 8-7 overall, while the Seawolves improved to 7-8 on the season. 
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights found themselves trailing 1-0 as the #2 doubles duo of Nathalie Ulander (Stockholm, Sweden) / junior Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany) fell to Kristine Theys/Chandrika Joshi to the score of 6-1. 
 
But Queens would tie the doubles match as the #1 doubles junior duo of Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) / Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y) picked up a 6-3 victory over Mathilde Sreeves/Loreto Rubio. 
 
The Seawolves would take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play as the Knights' #3 doubles duo of freshman Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) / sophomore Mariana Ling (Orlando, Fla) fell 6-4 to Carmen Rubio/Sara Medved. 
 
Singles Competition 
 
The Seawolves would take a 2-0 lead as Ulander fell at #2 singles against Theys to the score of 6-3, 6-1. 
 
Sciarrotta fell at #4 singles to Joshi as the home side took a commanding lead of 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. 
 
The Seawolves would clinch the match at #3 singles as Fawzy fell to L. Rubio to the score of 6-1, 6-3. 
 
Makal would get the Knights on the scoreboard with a three-set victory at #1 singles as she defeated Sreeves to the score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. 
 
At #5 singles junior Chole Certain (Obernai, France) fell three-set to Carmen Rubio to the score of 4-6, 6-1, 7-10. 
 
Schmidt would conclude the afternoon with the Knights' second point of the match as she defeated Medved in a three-set match to the score of 2-6, 6-2, 10-6. 
 
UP NEXT: Head coach Alan Nagel and the Knights return to regional play as they host Goldey-Beacom College in Flushing on Tuesday (Apr. 19) morning. The first serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
