Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Ulander Victorious but WTEN Falls to DI Fordham

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The spring 2022 women's tennis schedule went cross divisional as head coach Alan Nagel and the Queens College women's tennis team took Atlantic-10 Member Fordham University Rams (6-2 overall) inside the Queens College Tennis Bubble. 
 
But the Knights (6-4 overall) would be defeated 6-1 Saturday afternoon with the lone victor being senior Nathalie Ulander (Stockholm, Sweden) at the #2 singles spot. 

Doubles Competition
 
The Knights would trail after doubles competition 1-0 as they swept in all three matches. 

Queens #1 junior doubles duo of Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) / Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) would fall first to the score of 6-2 against Eleni Fasoula / Nicole Li. 
 
Fordham would clinch the doubles point as the #3 pair of freshman Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) / sophomore Mariana Ling (Orlando, Fla) fell 6-0 to Avery Aude / Lorraine Bergmann. 
 
At #2 doubles the duo of Ulander / junior Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany) would battle before coming short as they dropped their match to the score of 6-3 against Carlota Casasampere / Rachelle Yang. 
 
Singles Competition 
 
Singles play would bring no luck either as Fordham clinched the match taking five out of sixth singles on the day.
 
Makal would fall first at #1 singles as she was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Aude. Fawzy fell next at #3 singles against Casasampere to the score of 6-1, 6-3. 
 
Sciarrotta would drop the singles match at #4 as Li picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory to clinch the match for the visitors. 
 
Schmidt would drop the fourth singles at #5 singles in a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 loss to Yang. 
 
At #2 singles, Ulander would shine as she picked up the first set victory of 6-4 before dropping the next set to the score of 6-3. But the senior would clinch the lone point for the Knights winning 10-8 for the tiebreaker score over Fasoula.
 
Lastly at #6 singles junior Chole Certain (Obernai, France) battled against Bergmann as she dropped the first set to the score of 6-3 before winning the second set 7-5. But She would suffer a 10-7 loss in the tiebreaker as the Knights fell 6-1 to Fordham on Saturday. 
 
UP NEXT: The Knights return to regional play as they welcome Jefferson University Rams to Flushing on Friday (Mar. 18) afternoon. The first serve is set for noon.
