FLUSHING, N.Y.- On Friday afternoon, the Queens College women's tennis team
(6-3 overall) opened their spring 2022 schedule on a high note as they swept the visiting Fighting Scots of Edinboro University
(5-3 overall) inside the Queens College Tennis Bubble to the score of 7-0.
The Knights saw the return of freshman
Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) as the rookie missed the fall schedule due to an injury.
Doubles Competition
Queens wasted no time taking a 1-0 lead as the #1 doubles pair of juniors
Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) / Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) dispatched Vidisha Pallamreddy / Luciana Ponce to the score of 6-1.
The #2 doubles duo of senior
Nathalie Ulander (Stockholm, Sweden) / junior
Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany) would give the Knights a 1-0 match lead as they defeated the Fighting Scots duo of Rafaella Almeida / Marina Zottele to the score of 6-1.
The Knights would sweep doubles action as the #3 doubles pair of Fawzy / sophomore
Mariana Ling (Orlando, Fla) defeated Kaitlin Toth / Anisha Thada to the score of 6-4.
Singles Competition
Ulander would put the Knights up 2-0 as she made quick work of Ponce at #2 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Junior Chole Certain (Obernai, France) would Queens in the drivers seat with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Ana Nadai at #6 singles to give the home side a 3-0 lead.
At #4 singles Sciarrotta would clinch the match for the Knights with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Thada.
Fawzy made her return in grand style to the lineup with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at #3 singles over Almeida.
Schmidt would continue the run with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at #5 singles over Zottele. While #1 singles, Makal completed the sweep for the Knights with a 7-6
(10-8), 6-4 victory over Pallareddy.
UP NEXT: It will be a short rest of the Knights as they welcome Division I Atlantic-10 member Fordham University Rams to Flushing on Saturday (Mar. 12) afternoon. The first serve is set for noon.
