Women’s Basketball Concludes Road Stand in Buffalo as East Coast Conference Begins

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The road stand continues for the Queens College women's basketball team as the Knights open East Coast Conference play in Buffalo. 
 
Queens opens ECC play against the Saints of D'Youville Saints on Friday (Dec. 2) evening before concluding the Buffalo trip in Amherst against defending ECC champions Daemen University Wildcats on Sunday (Dec. 4) afternoon.  
 
Scouting the Knights
  • The Knights are 2-4 on the season and are coming off a 2-1 week as they defeated Bloomfield on Tuesday evening and ended the week with a victory over Alliance Sunday afternoon.  
  • Queens is averaging 58.0 points per game on 41.1% shooting and is averaging 35.7 rebounds and 12.5 assists per game. 
  • Freshman Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) leads the offense averaging 12.0 PPG, and tallied career-high 18 points in the victory over Bloomfield. On the season, the rookie has two double-doubles with both coming in the victories over Bloomfield and Alliance. 
  • While junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 9.0 PPG and tallied a season-high 15 points in the victory over Alliance. 
  • On Monday (Nov. 27), The East Coast Conference office awarded Lapertosa her second Rookie of the Week honors on the third Women's Basketball Weekly Report of the Year. Link
    • Lapertosa was Rookie of the Week on the first weekly report of the year on Nov. 14.
  • The Knights are 1-1 in the series against the Saints with their first victory coming in Buffalo last season as Queens picked up a 76-72 victory. 
  • Against the Wildcats, Queens are 9-7 and are looking for their first victory over Daemen since the 2017-18 season when the Knights earned a 70-60 victory in Flushing. In Amherst, the Knights are 4-4 overall and will be looking for their first win since the 2016-17 season when Queens earned an 84-66 victory.

Scouting the Saints
  • The Saints are 1-4 on the season and are currently on a three-game losing streak having fallen to Wayne State (Michigan) on November 28.  
  • D'Youville is averaging 47.3 points per game on 32.4% shooting and averaging 32.0 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game.
  • Brianne Moxley leads the offense averaging 12.3 points per game and tallied a season-high 21 points in the victory over Mansfield in the team's season opener.

Scouting the Wildcats
  • The Wildcats are 4-0 on the season and riding a four-game win streak. They will match up against Molloy on Friday before matching up against the Knights on Sunday. 
  • In the recent D2SIDA national poll, the Wildcats are ranked 10 and first in the East region.
  • Daemen is averaging 64.8 points per game on 40.6% shooting and averaging 36.0 rebounds and 13.0 assists per game.
  • Paige Emborsky leads the offense averaging 12.3 points per game and tallied a season-high 17 points in the victory over Pace University in the team's season opener.

  • East Coast Conference play opens in Flushing for head coach Bet Naumovski and the Knights on Friday (Dec. 9) evening as they welcome the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
