FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing a six-game homestand on Sunday afternoon, the Queens College volleyball team earned their third straight victory of the week as the Knights swept the visiting Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University in East Coast Conference play.
The offense hit .207 as the Knights earned their third ECC win of the season in a 3-0
(Set Scores: 25-18, 28-26,25-13) sweep over the Redhawks as senior
Alexis Deodat (Tampa Bay, FL) and sophomore
Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) combined for 17 kills.
With the win, the Knights improved to 9-10 overall, 3-2 in ECC play.
Queens earned their first win over Roberts Wesleyan in Flushing since sweeping them back on November 12, 2007.

Both teams would trade points to start the first set, but with the set tied 5-5, Franco led the Knights on a 3-0 run taking an 8-5 lead.
As the Redhawks battled back on a 4-3 run cutting the score down to 11-9, Queens would start a 7-2 run as freshman
Ryann Frontera (Dripping Springs, TX) and sophomore
Alicia Cervera Sospedra (Valencia, Spain) combined for three service aces taking a commanding lead of 18-11.
But the visitors would rally back as they took advantage of the Knights' errors going on a 7-3 run to cut the lead down to 21-18.
But four straight errors by Roberts Wesleyan would give Queens the first set victory as freshman
Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, FL) and Deodat combined for a block giving Queens a 25-18 victory and a 1-0 lead.
The second set saw another back-and-forth affair before the Knights attacking errors would put the Redhawks up 19-12.
Once again Franco notched multiple kills as Queens rallied back on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit down to 21-19.
As two more errors put Roberts Wesleyan two points from tying the match,
Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) and Cervera tallied back-to-back kills to cut the score down to 23-21.
Junior
Anjeline Arnakis (Bayside, N.Y.) would notch a kill before a solo block by Arnakis tied the second set 23-23.
Both sides would exchanges points forcing extra points. With the set tied 26-26, Cervera and Franco notched back-to-back kills as the Knights took a commanding 2-0 lead with a 28-26 second set victory.
The Redhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third set forcing head coach
Stefan Leger to take a timeout.
Deodat and Osterhoudt responded out of the timeout as the Knights went on a 6-3 run to tie the match at 6-6.
As the visitors reclaimed a 7-6 lead, Franco started a 9-2 run as Queens quickly went up 15-9.
The Redhawks would trim the home side lead down six, 19-13 before the Knights ended the match on a 6-0 run with senior
Leila Hadjeb (Queens, N.Y.) finishing the match on a service ace giving Queens a 25-13 victory and their third conference sweep of the season.
Match Highlights
- Franco led from the front with match-high nine kills with eight digs as the sophomore hit .409 on the day.
- While Deodat notched eight kills as the senior hit a searing .500 to go with two blocks.
- In the front, Arnakis notched a season-high four blocks to go with four kills.
- Sophomore Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) tallied a match-high 35 assists to go with six digs and two service aces.
- Frontera tallied 24 digs, three assists, and one service ace on the afternoon.

Stefan Leger and the Knights honored the late Queens College Hall of Fame women's volleyball coach Aline Pascale Lubin.
In attendance at the match were her husband Karl Pierre, daughters Ariel and Kiara along with Pascal's former student-athletes, Alumnis, and teammates from the Creole Volleyball club.

Stefan Leger and the Knights will have a bye week before they welcome Upstate New York foes Daemen University on Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon and conclude the week against D'Youville University on Sunday (Oct. 23) afternoon in ECC Play. The first serve is set for 1:00 P.M. against Daemen.
