Volleyball welcomes Upstate Foes in ECC Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to action following a week break, the Queens College volleyball team will host the Wildcats of Daemen University Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon and conclude the week on Sunday (Oct. 23) afternoon against the Saints of D'Youville University in East Coast Conference action.

Daemen Series History
  • Record: 4-13
  • Last Matchup: September 24, 2022 (L 0-3) Current Streak: L7
  • It will be the 18th meeting in program history between both sides and the second meeting of the season.
  • Queens fell 0-3 in the first meeting in Buffalo.
  • At home, the Knights are 3-5 and will be looking to end a seven-game slide and earn their first win over the Wildcats since the 2017 season. 
D'Youville Series History
  • Record: 2-1
  • Last Matchup: September 25, 2022 (W 3-0) Current Streak: W1
  • It will be the fourth meeting between both sides and the second of the season.
  • Queens took the first meeting with a 3-0 victory as they earned their first victory in ECC play and first win in Buffalo over the Saints.
  • The Knights are 1-0 in Flushing having earned a 3-1 victory last season. 
Queens College
  • The Knights are 9-10 overall, and 3-2 in ECC play. 
  • Queens are riding a three-game win streak having defeated Molloy, Le Moyne, and Roberts Wesleyan at home.
  • Senior Alexis Deodat (Tampa Bay, Fl) leads the offense having tallied 167 kills averaging 2.46 kills per set with 10 service aces and 49 total blocks on the season.
  • While rookie Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) has tallied 163 kills averaging 2.40 kills per set.
  • Sophomore Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) is averaging 2.66 kills per set with 149 on the season with a team-high seven double-doubles.  
  • On Tuesday (Oct. 11), the Knights nearly swept the ECC Weekly Award honors (Link)
    • Sophomore Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) earned Setter of the Week.
    • Rookie Ryann Frontera (Dripping Springs, TX) was named Defensive Player of the Week.
    • Conrad earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second time. 
    • Franco was named to the Honor Roll Sheet for the third time (8/29, 9/12), and earned Player of the Week honors on Sept. 19. 
    • Deodat found a spot on the Honor Roll sheet for the third time this season.
  • Queens has been tabbed to finish fourth in the ECC Coaches Preseason Poll.
Daemen
  • The Wildcats are 13-4 overall, and 6-0 in ECC play. 
  • They will match up against Saint Rose on Friday evening before entering Queens. 
  • Maggie Burns leads the offense having tallied 161 kills and 13 service aces on the season.
  • While Sam Logan has notched 142 kills with 16 service aces on the year.
  • Daemen has been tabbed to finish first on the ECC Preseason Coaches poll.
D'Youville
  • The Saints are 4-19 overall and 0-6 on the season.
  • They will match up with Molloy on Saturday before concluding their trip with a matchup against the Knights on Sunday.
  • Isabelle Prentice leads the offense with 150 kills and 18 service aces.
  • While Jaycee Karelus has tallied 139 kills on the season. 
  • D'Youville is not eligible for the ECC Tournament this season.
UP NEXT: Head coach Stefan Leger and the Knights conclude the home portion of the season on Senior Day on Saturday (Oct. 29) afternoon as the Mavericks of Mercy College come to town. The first serve is set for noon.
